Why doesn't Toda make stuff for the ZC?
I dont think the market commands a big enough demand to justify the R&D for ZC components. Besides... ZC motors are like 10 years old... how many people have them And how many people are willing to spend money to fix it up, just to get smoked by a b16??
I dont know man, there are tons of people worldwide with the ZC motor...just look at all of these guys: http://resource.crx.org/featured_crx.html
I suppose everything made for the ZC 10 years ago is sitting over in Japan, anyway.

I would say most products available in japan are available here now also. Maybe 5 or 6 years ago things were that way but not now. I just dont believe any company would make aftermarket parts for a engine thats not considered a performance engine in Japan. Lets take cams for example... Toda would spend a 1/2 million on R&D for 2 years or so..then spend another 1/2 million on materials... then 100K-200K on advertising.. then take time to find distributors... by then.. they ask themselves.. "In years time and all these millions spent.. how will we ever break even much less make a profit??" So they sell the cams for say..1,000 a fair price for a company like toda, spoon, mugen, etc. General public would say.. "Damn.. I could blow my ZC 3 times and replace it for that price.!!" In the end.. they spend a million and sell like 50 sets... get the picture?? Does beta remind you of anything? How about 8-track cassettes? 4 inch CD's??
You make some good points...but Toda has been around since the 70s, why did they never make anything for the ZC back when it was new and in it's prime? HKS had products for them and until recently still sold them. It seems as though there was never a large aftermarket for that motor even back when it was a brand-new powerplant. I know there are things for them in Japan because a buddy of mine was posted there in the military and had a ZC CRX with many goodies on it...he said they have all kinds of stuff over there for them. The ZC is still everywhere so I find it odd that no one is trying to make money off of it.

It is popular yes, but 10 years ago the import scene was still developing, and in Japan.. CRX's came with B16's. B16's where around sice 89 if I'm not mistaken so most companies developed on Vtec. If not.. we wouldnt have all those mods we have today. R&D takes time... trial and error all cost money. Why is it Toda finally NOW comes out with VTEC racing cams when VTEC has been around for over 12 years??

"but 10 years ago the import scene was still developing"
yea okay. thats like going to japan and saying the domestic chevy scene is just developing.
the zc was a good performer when it was new. but that was what like '84. obviously its not the engine of choice now.
and what are you talkng about when you say this "Why is it Toda finally NOW comes out with VTEC racing cams when VTEC has been around for over 12 years??"
yeah ok, they JUST started making cams for the b series engines.
zc cams exist. the hks cams are pretty weak but feels made cams, as did mugen and i wouldnt be surprised if companies like toda and others made them as well. its just that the engine has been out of production for so long that they're impossible to find.
if you want zc cams now i'd say hit up crower and get one of the profiles they used on their ls cams ground onto (with their hardfacing too) some zc/D16A1 cores.
regrinds will probably outlast your old zc so there really isnt any reason to not use them.

Arent the TODA racing cams new? I'm not talking about A,B,C spec cams... I'm talking about theTODA RACING cams!! I was simply making a point that research and development takes time. So if they started now.. by the time they have an "end product" the ZC will be a dinosaur.
im sick of all these bseries owning haters who talk **** about the sohc's and zc's.
these motors arent worthless trash.
just because you spent money on a b16 doesnt make you better than someone who spent theirs on a zc or sohc vtec or d16a or d15 ect ect..
its elitism..none of these motors can make enough power for this kind of aditude.
sure a oil burning zc with unknown milage will blow when you cram it full of nitrous and or beat the hell out of it.
sorry for the ranting..this isnt aimed at any of you in particular..just built up frustration at all the hating that goes on.

I'm not hating on the ZC.. I'm just thining that with the new honda engines and with engines like B16 and B18 around... no company will spend time making products for the ZC. Most of the time Honda engines are very compatible anyway... parts for B16 re used on B18 and vise versa. B18B/A can have the B18C 16A head. B20's....the same thing. Even have a D-series with DOHC from a LS. ( I know I'm gunna get flamed for sayin that, but its true) I'm sure ZC parts can be found off products made for any ofthose engines.
