Stuck in 2nd gear, sports mode light wil not go out.
e little help my friend owns a 91 honda accord lx, possible ecu problem, im not quite sure. but his car will stay in sports mode and stay in 2nd gear, sports mode light comes off and on by itself, some people say its a common problem, any help? thanx-james
Find the AT control silinoid under the drivers dash. Its a tin box that works with the gear selector and has safety features. When mine went bad I would be driving and suddenly I would be in second and my RPM at 4000. After I resoldered everything inside that box, it worked fine. Don't blame the transmission yet. Good luck

The problem you are experiencing is the TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT that is located under the carpet on the passenger floor. It is under the metal frame next to the ECM. You can see it in the picture below (it is colored green).

You can use one out of either a 1990 or 1991 Accord only. These are the only 2 years that had the "sport" shift. Go to a yard and get one out of a DX ... LX ... or an EX. Does not make a difference which model as there was only a slight difference in shift points.
I just sold a 1990 Accord LX and mine went up just before selling it. Had the exact same symptoms as you. I got a new control unit and it worked fine.
Honda did address this issue in a bulletin a few years back.
