Just Put in my AEM CAI on my GS-R
Hey Just got my 2001 GS-R last month. I ran at the track a few weeks ago for the first time. Mind you this is the first time I raced a stick before so you guys can laugh all you want at my times. Well my reaction was .597 which isn't all that bad, 60' ft times BLOW they were 2.5,2.6 I am spinning to much out of the hole. well I crossed the finish line at 16.5@85mph. Well Bought the AEM CAI and ran the car again, reaction was just about the same, 60 ft are still the same but i did it in 15.98@91 mph. That intake is GOD!!! Now I gotta get me some slicks to lower my 60ft times and give me some hook.
Just learn to drive, forget the slicks. I would be embarassed to run anything less than a 13.5 or so on slicks. *shrug* Much cooler for a GSR to run low 15s/high 14s on streets with basic bolt-ons... IMO anyway....
You can get 2.1-2.2 60s with practice, just takes awhile.

with Practice you should get LOW 15's or high 14's. If you get slicks, you'll most likely hit 14's with great driving.
Feels good to hit 14's with minor mods...

beware of the "CAI syndrome" which will hurt your mileage
sure is fun to hear though, especially when you go through underpasses WOT

With slicks you should hit low 15s if you drive the way your driving now.....
If you got better you'd be like in the mid 14s if your good...
I've seen GSRs with just AEM run 15.0X and 15.1 , and a couple with suspension mods run 14.9....with slicks, mid 14s i'd assume
IMO forget the slicks, learn how to launch the car with normal tires first, and learn how to shift faster and what not....improve on that, and then work your way up....
Not very beneficial when you buy mods if you cant use them to their fullest...reason for buying mods to make the car faster...when the driver can out drive the car......if that makes sense...like if your running 16s with a GSR, you CAN get mid 15s... STOCK if your good......and then from there, add more, it'll improve your times....because the added mods arent working to their potential, neither is the driver.....
Perfect practice makes perfect. Seat time, it's very important ...

i forgot who said this but someone said "learn how to drive your car to the max. then mods could come" very true in my opinion. anyways, just learn how to drive first and then use slicks. becareful not to break any axles.
why does the aem CAI? make your MPG go down, i don't understand, shouldn't cooler air help your engine run more efficiently? Please explain
I didn't notice my gas mileage go down at all when I got my AEM CAI on my RS. I think I would have if it did, I pay pretty close attention to my gas mileage. I'v only had my car since May, when I got it it had just over 75,000 now it has 82,200!!! So yeah, I pay alot of attention to it, specially when rinning nothin but premium at almost $2.00 a gallon!!!!!
Hehe... I think what they meant when they said "CAI Syndrome" is you tend to want to step on the gas more when you get the intake to the new found power. Therefore resulting in lower gas mileage.
Lower your tire pressure and don't take off at high RPMS
Try taking off at 2500-3000 rpm, and gently let go of the
clutch. A GSR with just an aem filter can run in the low 15's

I put my tires down to 14 pounds....and i do rev to about 3000 rpms, but i dump the clutch, maybe if i ride it would give me better times.. but won't know until i go again. Still new to this whole thing, my last car was a automatic, so i just punched it when the tree lit up green.
