chrome moly. better material.

I'm mixed on this. CM is stronger then mild steel and you need a much thinner
wall so the cage is much lighter (30-40%).
The downsides, you NEED to use a Tig welder and even then if you don't weld it
right you can wind up with a brittle area next to the weld. Total cost is at least double for the cage and the welding.
The one thing that always worryed me about CM is the secondary hit. The first
hit CM will hold up great, it's the 2nd hit that concerns me. I've seen this stuff
snap right after the weld were a mild steel peice will just bend.
A step that most don't do that will help is to temper the material around the weld.
Heat it till it's dull red and let it cool as slowly as you can, this will do wonders!

what about certification, is there a rule saying that you have to have it re-certified every two years?
my thoughts are that in any class there is a specific weight limit that you cant go under wether you use moly steel or in any weight reduction situation. im pretty sure that you can get to that limit or pretty close to it with steel. either way you cant go under it.
Steel would half the price and if your getting the same result ( or pretty close to it ) i dont really see the point. i guess it also depends on your financial situation too, if i had a ton of sponsors or a big budget i would definetly get moly but im poor trying to compete in a pro class so i guess im using steel.

I could say moly on a full cage but if your only getting a 5-6pt then get the mild steel. Matty give me your number I want to see this bad boy! Rob
