h22 GURUs -- help me fix my codes. POISON, NEWMAN, WHO ELSE?
ok 99 civic, h22a4, jdm p13.
it was running ok with the usdm obd2 dizzy i had on it (had no codes)
now i have hooked up my new jdm int. coil dizzy. drove it around for a while, everthing is great, pulls just as hard as it did before except my VTEC is not working. it still revs all the way, so i dont think its in limp mode.
and i have codes:
9 - No. 1 CYLINDER POSITION (CYP) SENSOR
22 - VARIABLE VALVE TIMING & VALVE LIFT ELECTRONIC CONTROL (VTEC) PRESSURE SWITCH
i have not touched the VTEC system at all... except i unplugged it when i took out the engine harness. and then i hooked it all back up again when i reinstalled everything. ( did not modify these wires at all so i do not understand why my VTEC is not working
aaarrrr!!!)
and as for the CYP thing...its a NEW dizzy with the CYP sensor in it. and from what i understand... if the car was not starting and thowing this code, it would make more sense to me. because the ecu would not know where the 1st cylinder is. but its starting and running good (minus VTEC) and i would think if the cylinders weren't firing rite that it would be a lil more obvious.
i have checked all the wires twice and can not seem to find anything....
what do yall suggest?
-also there is a slight hesitation when i start to rev it. its not bad, but its there ya know. i think this may be due to not having set the timing yet...
TIA.

code 9 has to do with timing and firing order. since your car is running, I suggest checking timing.. line it up with the white line on the flywheel.
maybe way off base, but check the timing belt the weakest link of the belt is that damn hydrolic pressurized piston for the belt when that starts to go, the belt might skip a tooth and still run, it will slowly loosen up and one day BAM! your dead on the road (I've done this TWICE already).
your code 22 wont work till your code 9 is fixed most likely. are you using a vtec controller also?

im going to try and set the timing today after school. u think that will fix it? and then hopefully if that fixes it, like u sed my vtec may work after that... ?...
**crosses fingers**
oh no, im not using a vtec controller either.

I dont think that should matter. BTW how far advanced or retarded is your timing?

Set your timing and reset your ECU.
As for the problem with the vtec oil pressure, check your oil level, if that does not work, take off the vtec solenoid and ensure it's clean.
If the problem continues, check to make sure the harness is plugged in all the way. (remove it then clip it back in).
Keep us posted man

gonna do this in about 3 hours. ** cant wait to leave school **
man i hope this works..
and the oil level is good, actually i have a tad bit to much in there.
ok, checked the CEL agen.
and now i have codes also:
12 - (is this EGR)??
36 - ???????????

36 may be a 4 wheel steering code. do a search i think ive seen it before. is the egr hooked up?? look at your ecu, does it say 4w on it? keep us posted!
good luck

-no my egr is not hooked up. (almost) ehhe... cool 12 is outta the way. i can fix that.
-as for 36, thats rite.. i remember someone said something about traction control..?.. its a jdm p13 4ws . thats prolly it, u think a spoon chip will get rid of that?
good luck

I don't think it will. A chip only modifies the fuel/timing maps on the ECU. Not clear codes.

I do not see why you have to get rid of it. It is not hurting your motor/performance. Try to reset the ECU, It may get rid of 36 for the time being. Just take your (+) or (-) side of the battery for at least 30 seconds and/or pull out the ECU main relay for the some time.

this guy at a shop told me that if any check lights are on, its going to affect ur performance. plus i hate that dam orange light on all the time..
if its really not hurting me, when i get everything else cleared, i may just take out the light. ahahha

Not true, it matters what the code is.
BTW, does your ECU have 4 sets of pinouts on it or 3?

well when i get all the codes off, i will dyno it for myself if that one code is hurting me...
it has 4 plugs

Even with the three and four style plugs, there are some P13 ECU's that throw the code 36.

wait... hmm.. i think it has 3. hahahah. my conversion harness has 4.
i cant freakin remember. lemme go check.

I (personally) have only seen it on 4. I am asking around and seeing if it happens on certain ECU. What you find, poison, I want to see what causes this and what, if any, way to know what ECU will have the code.

Well Newman has several P13's both with the 4 plug style, and also saw it on the 3 style one. I have a thee plug P13 ECU and never threw the code 36. It also has 4W stamped on it as well -- strange...
