yah, that's normal. have you pulled the **** off to make sure it wasnt also cracked? and did you reuse the metal clip that goes inside from the old one, or get a new one along with the ****? if you didnt, the **** wont have a tight enough bite on the actually control thingy so it'll just kinda spin around freely.

if thats not the case, perhaps the new **** wasnt placed in the original position, so the arrow isn't accurately displaying what the temp is being set to?

speaking of *****, some ****** here just ripped me off on a replacement one and i dont even have his name in my im history anymore

 

I've read about a procedure for adjusting the **** correctly....it involves the adjuster rod not completely closing the heater flow valve (or something like that). I've been meaning to adjust this as well on my 94.

I think it was Stew Pidasso who posted the how-to-fix a long time back. Search the archives...it should be there...

I'd query something like "A/C" "aircon" "heater fix"

as far as the clip that might be a different year...mine has the half moon shape
