FREE!!!! need help (exhaust related)
My friend had a muffler on his accord but sold the car to an older guy who didnt want it so he gave me the muffler. Perfect condition and cost him 150 canadian. Looks exactly like this:

Now Im pretty sure I want to use this but I dont know exactly what combo to use. I already have a cherry bomb muffler and was thinking of throwing it on where my OEM muffler goes and have it act as a resonator or I could take it off and weld in some piping and would only have the free muffler.
Made a pic to understand better.
Just need help on what system and why...

All going into a dohc zc si with 2.5" piping

Yes
Yes
I was kind of thinking that to but havent seen to many EF's with just piping where the muffler belongs, would just seem odd.
Any other opinions if #2 is a good setup or if combining them (#3) would be better for hp/sound/looks

use muffler clamps and just have it temporaly installed using those, if you like it keep it and weld it up... if not get rid of the cherry bomb. painting the exh piping black will reduce the look your concerned about. hth

r u sure it will fit?.. most bombs won't fit straight the way u want it.. thats why most have it side ways.. u might wanna get some messurments.. BTW ur name is riceracist.. but bombs are pretty ricey i think

what the hell. PROVE IT. but wait you cant.
setup number 3 will sound like a good aftermarket exhaust. cherry bombs do not rob HP unless they are louvered core. a REAL cherry bomb is not louvered core.
also, for the resonator to be most effective, it does need to be placed as far back as possible...
SIRX- if resonators rob so much HP why is it every aftermarket exhaust uses one (greddy, apexi, thermal, tenabe just tomane a few)

If you ever have the chance, look into a resonator - you won't see anything inside it! It's a straight shot through the resonator with nothing to block exhaust flow. There is a cylindrical 'vented' chamber that deals with the variances in the exhaust flow and evens it out. A resonator really doesn't quiet the exhaust, but it cleans it up and gets rid of the blatty tin can sounds.

So setup #3 would sound good? I already have the cherry bomb in place so it would save me some time and money instead of buying and welding a new piece of 2.5". Im really just looking for a nice deep sound. I guess Im only interested now in setup 2 and 3
You'd like setup #3 the best...it would be the least annoying sounding and give you a good flow of exhaust. right now I'm running with three cherry bombs and a catalytic converter and it sounds deep and good, no rasp to it at all.

My brother almost has the same exact muffler on his 00 si, when we ordered it, it was a tanabe replica. Its one of the best sounding mufflers I have ever heard. Its not loud at all. Its a nice deep throaty sound. If you want I could take a sound clip of it.

So your bro is just running the greddy style muffler? or just a cherry?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I will have it soon, he is running a no name brand muffler but it is meant to look like the tanabe one I guess. And for what my brother is running, I think 2.5 is perfect.

Ya the car came with 2.5" with the stock d16 motor. I really wanna hear this clip so I can decide to use just the tanabe style muffler or the tanabe style and the cherry where the OEM muffler would have gone.
I would probably think #3 would sound the best and save you cash. Just throw the cherry you alread have where youre OEM muffler goes and obviously the free muffler goes at the very end. The cherry would sort of act as a resonator and I would imagine would produce a good low tone but still loud exhaust. Have to wait for the clip then tone that down a little
