Default found a car

ok, so i found a 1990 civic si-it is black and the paint is in really good shape. No major dents, absolutley no rust, even by the sunroof, and the interior is in pretty good shape. The car has 275,000 miles on it and the guy wants 1700 for it. I know i can talk him down to about 1300. Would this be a good buy? i don't really want to swap out the motors for something like a b-series, maybe just like a zc or a z6, because i kind of just want to stick with the stock motor and maybe supercharge it. Tell me what you guys would do, thanks

If the body is flawless the 1300 is a yes and no good deal. If you want it go for it but I think a grand is pushing it.

Black Si's are SICK. you might wanna think about a rebuild or some new gaskets before you supercharge that 275,000 mile engine.

If you can get it for 1300 hundred then go for it but by no means would I ever try and mod a 275k mile engine.

Old school hondas are the shizznit. As for supercharging the stock motor Do a motor swap to a B-series. And boost it.

if it had say 100,000 miles or less and good compression it could be a good candidate for a supercharger on the stock engine. and smoke B series all day long

here comes the DvsB

well dohc zc turbo would be good. supercharge would be cool also cause you can get used jsrc for 1300. but that would only be for a sohc zc.

I dont dislike the SOHC motor but the DOHC motor has more potential. not to mention boost with displacment = good!! so bore out a 1.8 liter to a 2.2 and then boost it. and you will have mad power

thats not a bad price, you could have a nice rebuild done on your d16A6, maybe put a z6 head on it and you would be rocking and rollin, i would check out exospeed.com they are the D-series gurus, as is spade on this board, good luck man if you buy it put up some pics!!

I got him down to 1200...Ok, so here are the big problems

-I am 16, not really mechanically inclined, but i know some stuff
-I live in a part of the country where you don't see honda's-EVER
-I don't know where to have a motor shipped if i wanted to swap it
-Not real confindent in swapping motors-even to a d16z6
-Is wiring really that much of a bitch?
-the car has a shitload of miles-275,000...but the car looks clean-look at the pic!

The good-

-I have a kick *** job and $500.00 2 week paychecks are normal in the summer
-I have access to many tools, a massive heated shop, and an engine hoist

Wow that car looks familiar....spitting image of mine.

Also with that mileage expect to have worn balljoints and all that...but who cares, that body is sweet.

if you have access to tools and a shop i think youll be alright. if you want info on sohc boosted check out homemadeturbo.com or turbod16.com . theres a few guys runnin around 200whp on stock internals on these sites. down here i can get sohcs for around $300. so up there it shouldnt be much different, especially if the junkyards arent up on it yet. if you go b18 ls youll have a few options when its in there. thats a reasonable price, i think i would get it if i were you.
