Default does anyone have a b20vtec that revs to 8500k-9k rpm?

i'm seriously thinking about building a b20vtec engine, but would like to have a redline of what's mentioned in the topic.

i am going to have a built bottom end, but i'm not sure of what aftermarket parts i'm going to use, but i can use the search for that.

also, i won't be reving my motor that high all the time, except when i get the erge to hear my motor scream.

i only rev mine to 8K rpm, because my cams die off at 7.5K rpms. if your head is up to reving past 8.5K rpms(head work, cams, springs and retainers), you must make the bottomend stronger by balancing the crank, using rod bolts, aftermarket rods and pistons, as well as switching to the vtec oil and water pumps!

With a bult bottom end you should have no problems reving to 8500+...

I have friends and associates running 2.0's to 10k+ with no block girdle... Im sure several of you out there have seen a few of their dyno sheets floating around

You rev a motor to where it makes power too. Not a specific rpm. If you plan to rev that high you need to build the motor so it will make power up that high. Rev's dont mean anything without a powerband to back it up. Keep that in mind when planning your build.

Exactly, well put...

Reving to 50,000 rpms may be the cool thing to do but its pointless unless the motor is making power there... for example... A stock B16 peaks at 7600, due to rpm drop when shifting your generaly going to want to rev about 600 or so rpms past your peak which really depends on your particular gearing set up, sometimes it may be 400... Generaly with OEM gearing its about 600...

So for a stock B16 right about 8200 is all the revs your going to need.

Not to mention shifting at uneccessary high rpms is more wear and tear on your tranny and synchros. If you have access to a dyno, find out where your motor stops making power.

Do you guys have dyno plots to back that up , or is it butt dyno? What cams are you running?

I rev to 9.5k and my power has not peaked yet, I just don't like reving any higher. b20 block good balancing no girdle.

yea. totally right!.. i have a b20bvtec in my car with a stock bottom end..(kms blockgaurd).. and sometimes i accidentally rev to 8k. but it takes it.. i think if you build the bottom end youll definetly be able to rev past 8k. i love my b20!.. good luck.. PS: that blockgaurd will save your ***!!! my advice is buy one. a big problem with b20vtec is cylinder walls cracking from high revs and making them crack.

it is fun spinning to 9k, but only if the motor can actually handle it

i heard this could happen if you have a c/r of 12.0:1 or higher and that you need to get some golden eagle sleeves(or any aftermarket sleeves), is this true
