B16 rexers...what do you typically launch at?
This topic is probably kinda exhausted, but I didn't find anything in search. For those of you who have B16 CRX's, what rpm do you typically launch at? I just can't seem to find a happy medium; either I bog or I spin. I'm running on street tires, so I know that's hurting me, but what in the world can I do to improve my launch? Every single race i've lost has been off the line, and it's irritating.

I launch at around 7800 to 8000 rpm. I just hold that rpm and dump the clutch. 60ft times are usually mid to high 1.8's. I use M&H slicks and I don't have a LSD. The two things that made the biggest difference in my launches were the slicks, stiffening the rear suspension, and the Z10 crossmember. If you are going to stay with street tires, I'd say lower the tire pressure to about 20psi and try and find a rpm range in which you spin your tires the least. Maybe start a 3500 rpm and work your way up or down. Launching in VTEC will definitely lead to wheel spin on street tires.
well, i'm in the middle of getting a set of Group N's with either 195 or 205 series Falken Azenis, so i'm hoping that will help my traction woes a little bit. I guess my question was whether or not you hold your rpms and then when the lights turns green dump the clutch, or if you kinda feather the clutch out on the start. You definitely get good results from holding at whatever rpm you launch at and dumping the clutch? I'm just trying to learn the best technique, and rather than act like a hardass and pretend I know how to do it right, i'll just ask.
i'm launching at 8000 and shifting at 8700. when coming off the line at palmdale i bog down a little because i don't have enough torque to keep the tires spinning...one down fall to a b16. if you're running on street tires, try launching at 3000 to 4000 and then go from there. good luck.
For me I just hold the rpms and dump the clutch on the last yellow light before the green. I'm going to be installing a 2-step to help me be more consistent on my launches. At least I'll be leaving at the exact same rpm every time. Getting your launch down just takes practice. Every car is different and every driver is different. The next time your at the track, try different methods and see which works best, be it dumping the clutch or feathering it out. For me, it's more fun to just dump it

on street tires and an open diff, i used to launch mine at 4k on the streets...just dump the clutch, and control spin with the gas, not the clutch.

I'll try dumping the clutch at about 3500 and see if i still spin.
in doing that, youll need to let off the gas a bit, to control the wheel spin...spinning tires is ok as long as your going forward

what is your tire pressure? sounds like you aren't hooking up, try running a lower tire pressure.

I have stock si rims, so i have 195/60/14's on em....since the tires are supposed to be filled at 40psi, i usually drop the pressure to 30. I still spin like a bitch though....think I should go lower?

well...keep in mind you are on street tires...honestly, you may want to invest in some cheater slicks. trust me, it will make a huge difference! i went from a 9.2 to a 8.9 on cheaters.
