hey all, my buddy hooked me up with a cable b16 tranny for my engine swap, he says that is has a grind from 2nd to 3rd which is common for those trannies! everything was cool until i wanted to get it repaired, i heard that in order to fix it i have to order the 1st to 2nd gear assembly and the 3rd and 4th gear assembly! keep in mind the gear assemblies can not be bought in pieces and they cost about $250 each (all hear say)! what i want to know is if there are any other methods to fixing the transmission besides this method, how much you guys have had to pay to fix yours, should i buy another bag of tricks (another tranny), put it in and then see what's wrong, or just put that **** in and leave it in until it takes a dump?!
oh yeah the tranny shop wants to charge $260 to rip it apart and put it back together! is that the going rate?
ps: all help would be very nice, thanks h-t peeps!

Hit me up later Bran, my tranny guy should be able to do it cheaper

This is why the next time I need to swap out my trans I am going to bite the bullet and get the Hasport kit and convert to a hydro trans setup.

DITTO! That's I waited long and hard for the release. I am currently running a hydro ITR tranny, but I still "Baby" my shifts. No need to power shift on the street. Even at the track I shift faster, but dont SLAM them quick. That extra tenth or two off my 1/4 mile time is not worth the damage to my ITR tranny. Now if there is a cash prize on hand, thats a different story. I still manage to take home trophies though.
Last time I went to the dragstrip, I felt bad for beating on my tranny all day. I changed the HONDA MTF in the tranny only after about 600 miles!!! I kinda wanted to do this anyway to "wash out" the dirty JDM fluid that was in there before. The often I change it, the cleaner my tranny gets. ( internally )
Cable or Hydro, no matter what tranny you've got, I always tell my customers its not worth to "Power shift" for that little extra edge. Especially on the street when you can get caught racing and dont win anything anyway but a ticket!!

yeah handcommand i hear yu, however i have not had the chance to destroy my tranny! it has never beeen installed! i picked it up from a "friend" and then learned it had a 2nd to 3dr gear grind! all i want to do is fix it before i put it in , so i can treat it right and actually get some miles out of it! i have been told that they have to actually road test them in order to see what is wrong with it, so some shops don't even want to mess with it because it is out of the car! (sucks) once this pos is right i will be looking into getting a hydro tranny with the conversion, but i have to work woth what i got for now!
Well if you're going to be replacing it with a hydro unit later on I wouldn't even worry about rebuilding the one you have now. My cable tranny has been grinding as long as I've had it. I definitely don't baby it and it hasn't given out on me yet. One option I've heard of is people using the GM Synchromesh tranny fluid. I hear it's supposed to help out with some minor grinds. It won't actually fix any problems with the tranny, just help with the grinds. I'd like to try it one day but haven't gotten around to going to a GM dealership to pick any up. Maybe someone who's actually used it can back me up on this. I dunno, I'm just telling you what I would do. The grinding really doesn't bother me, especially once I start thinking about how much money it would cost to fix things! The car still runs as strong as ever, it's just a little noisy going into 2nd and 3rd gear when I'm getting on it. As long as you "treat it right" you'll still get miles out of it even if it's got a couple worn synchros. Just my two cents...

I can back up the Synchromesh...it works wonders. Hell it might even erase that grind he has...only one way to find out.

GM Synchromesh works great. I had that good 'ol 2nd to 3rd grind, and started getting the 4th to 5th. Synchromesh made my tranny feel like new. I made a thread about it, plus there are several other threads about it if you do a search.

**** $260 just to look at it. To of my friends that have been working on cars before I even got my license have been teaching me how to work in Honda trannys and we have been doing it a lot lately we would look at it for free. To bad you don't live in the Midwest.
As far as the 90-93 cable GSR tranny parts working no for some reason that tranny is different then all the other trannys it has 3 shafts in it. Every other tranny only has two if that’s makes any since. You could put LS parts in it but why would you wont to put in such long gears unless you’re doing the 5th gear. I did it in my car and it has been the best mod I think I have done well besides the turbo

if you do get the syncomesh be sure to get the friction modified formula! if you get just the regular syncro mesh it is just like honda mtf most of the time when i do swaps in efs the ones with the lsd's esp always seen to grind! the one i did in my car grinds i am getting gear sets from ellete honda in london they have the crx in thr sir so they can sell you parts for a jdm motor but they speak english! cause i dont speak japanese! i ll let you guys know how it works syncros are easy to put in its just really careful work every thing has to be perfect i do them all the time at the dealership where i work well good luck with another sir 1 trans grinding!
