Default big bore d16 vs. b18 swap

im not sure if this has been brought up before specifically, i have heard a lot of people debating over swapping and doing a cheap SOHC turbo setup. but i was wondering if anyone considered boring out their dseries motors to 78 or 79mm instead of swapping. just wondering if it would be a good choice considering a swap would cost as much as the resleeving and components of the SOHC, if not more.. any thoughts?

i would love to sleeve and bore out my zc, that would ROCK, but its very expensive, on a college budget especially. maybe after college i'll build an allmotor zc decim8er.....who knows.

Its a silent subject since only the brave do a NA D series. Talk to wil at exospeed.com and he will help you with NA d series stuff. I say do the D and help the small d community. Thats my next project. The d will be a good choice but will coat a little more to make it as far as a B. But think about it, 11 sec NA D or 11 sec B? what sounds more bad ***.

Considering that you can pick up a B18A/B18B for almost nothing these days, I hardly think it is worth the expense of resleeving a D16 to try to get the same displacement. Also keep in mind that a D16 resleeved to 78 or even 79mm is not going to have the displacement of a B18A/B18B. Neither will it have the internal strength nor the stronger clutch/transmission/axles. Such a setup is only for D-series people wanting to prove a point.
