I may be getting some new 1/4's off another crx... now where should they be cut?
should the welds be cut out? where should it be cut in the door frame?
any pictures would be great, thanks.

There is no rules for cutting and replacing....go cut out what you need, but get the whole panel. Ex.--you need to replace the rear lower sheet metal below the molding to where it meets the door, it's rusted. So you would pop off the molding and cut there because it will be easy to hide the new weld/bondowork behind the molding. Your second cut will be before the first bend inside the door jam, again a good spot to hide your welds. Quarter panel is the same deal, cut in the door jam, across the c-pillar, then pop ALL the pinchwelds under the lower window seal/rubber thing, and on the fender lip. Easier said than done though. You just have to do it for yourself.
