Default turbo choices for homemade setup

ive looked at all three, and im not sure what would be better,

rhb5
t25
14b

my goal is to have a daily driver but to take it to the track every once and a while, most of my driving with the car will be daily though.

i hear the rhb5 spools up quicker then the other two and is set at 8 lbs, which is about where i wanted more then six less then ten on a stock d16a6 block

any extra info on these three would be nice, or if there are any others that are recomended, hopefully i gave you all the info needed for your awnsers

none of the above. get a T3 .42/.48 but most likely it will run out of steam at the end of your powerband...

if this is on a d-series daily driver the t25 wouldn't be a bad turbo. i have a 14b on my daily driven d-series.

the t3 is the easiest to setup...and it will offer the best performance.

get a .60 T3....and you'll love it. Pretty damn quick spool...and decent top end.

.60 T3 will spool kinda late for a D series dont you think? one plus w/ the T3 .60/.63 is you wont run out of steam in the higher rpm range...but a .60 a/r might be a little big...i really am not 100% sure though.

yeah i heard the t3 was a little big, and i heard it was difficult to tune, im gonna use my stock bottom end (d16a6) and maybe a z6 top end for higher top end, but this is gonna be daily driven, stock internal and just a bigger fuel pump, maybe msd iginition, but other wise pretty stock, with a turbo and intercooler piped on, so what now that ive given more info what do you think?

what does a sc61 come off of, eight psi will be eough for me that's why i was kinda leaning towards the rhb5 tiny and spools quick

thanks for the info guys
keep it coming

to awnser the question, Dr. D = d series motor yes lol

out of those 3 turbo i would go with the 14b. thats what im running on my d16 and i love it. i used to run the ihi rhb5 and switched to the 14b. big difference. the pull up top is alot better with the 14b.

he knows,

i built the same setup, just have to install it. You can have a full 10psi at around 3000 rpm. great for daily driver/ occasional track duty.

He specifically said homemade setup, and I think he meant to communicate junkyard setup.... so the SC61 fad isn't going to suite his needs.

I don't want to hijack the thread's intended direction, but also which turob has the easiest flanges to work with?

get the t25 or 14b... rhb5 is too small.. although it spools up quickly, it doesn't get to 8psi as soon as you think....

it starts spooling like 1500rpm but around 3500 is where 8psi is... of course i never floor it below 3.2k so maybe it does spool up around 3000 if u floor it from idle... i dunno

it's not giving much hp at top end. that's all i found out.. missing like 20-30 hp

my choice T25 off of an SR20det good spool, nice AR's .84/ .64

also i was curious how a T3 .42/.63 would do on a d16y8? we just put one on my buddy's civic "homemade kit" and didnt realize it had a .63 ar tilll we put it in. I've never seen one with that type of setup, usually they're .42/.48.

(local junkyad) copher pulls some of there more expensive stuff sometimes, like ecus and turbos stuff like that, besides the motor and interior, i guess it's stuff people could steal anyways, if they have turbos pulled already, how can i identify the t25? any numbers printed on the housing?

you could look at the difference in flanges. the dsm t25 had an almost square flange with a round inner opening. the nissan t25 is a rectangular flange a lil smaller then a t3 flange and is about 4" wide. and i believe the ihi turbo has a completely different flange of its own. and a T3 will just be bigger then them and usually has a standard 5-bolt exhaust housing. good luck
