Default HELP! I have a '91 CRX HF that needs new brakes....

I need new brakes on my '91 HF and I want to know all the options I have...

On the fronts, I have heard about getting stock sized drilled and/or slotted rotors, OR going to larger brakes from an Integra etc. How much more work is it to put on a whole new brake system as opposed to just new rotors and pads? Also, will my stock 13" wheels still fit for winter driving?

On the rears, is there a good drum to disk conversion kit out there? How much work is it? Where are some good places to shop for these kinds of parts?

Thanks much for your help

from what i hear the rear disc conversion isn't worth it...i was going to do it but am glad i didn't becaues your rear brakes only provide what, 15-20% of hte braking force?

For the fronts i would find some CRX Si calipers/mounting brackets and slap those on, then get some Si rotors and you're set. That would be a nice setup on such a light little car and wouldn't cost much at all.

I actually have a set of Si calipers in my garage i could sell ya cheap. Let me know they are an extra set i bought when i upgraded mine

Its true that there isn't much practical reason for having big stoppers on the rear of a CRX. The main reason I was thinking about it is for aesthetic reasons. I would be interested in a pic of your si brakes. Also what is an si rotor diameter? Thanks!

Your 91 hf is a very light veh. and does not need the big brake upgrade, I have the 91 dx (a little heavier) and have already been there/ done that and now I am switching back to stock, for wheel sizing purposes. I will be putting the big brake upgrade on my 91 Si, summer ride. don't get me wrong the big brake upgrade works great, but I want better gearing for the race car, smaller wheel=higher revs/same gear. If this is for looks then go ahead and spend the money, I agree it looks great, but it isn't needed. If you want great brakes just get stainless lines, good pads, rotors (many choices), and bleed the entire system and put in good brake fluid, and then adjust them properely, your done and save the money for performance upgrades
