Odometer loosing miles in reverse??
OK a few months ago I made a comment in someone'e post on how in my 91 CRX automatic DX that I could actually "loose" miles in reverse.
OK now one person said it might be a defective cluster and that there was something wrong with the cluster other people just made comments about Feris Bueler's day off.
Now I have took out the DX motor and the auto trans and put in an A6 motor and an Si tranny and along with that I swapped out the gauge cluster as well for the Si one. So now I have a completely different motor, tranny, and cluster and guess what??!! It still does it!! I was messing around at storage today and thought about how my other CRX did it and how my 84 and 85 CRX's did it as well so I tried it again and it still does it!!
So basically what I want you to do is to go out and try it and tell me if yours does it or not and dont post just saying oh its screwed up and dont post if you dont actually know I want people who have or are going to try this to come back and let me know cause I also tried a different Si cluster today and also a different DX cluster (I have 4 clusters total) and they all did it. So please go out and try it and remember you have to go in reverse for a little bit (at least a tenth of a mile) and let me know if yours does it as well.
TIA!!

Unfortunately, its only the cable driven speedometers that will do that. The electronic ones will read the miles you do in reverse as forward miles, because the signal going to the cluster doesn't change when you go from forward to reverse.

Hmmm? Thats interesting? And so many people quick to say that I am either lying or that my cluster is defective!

No see I'm not trying to take miles off I was just seeing if it had worked or not, besides its not like the miles are right for my CRX anyway they are right for the motor thats about it the cluster was changed out. I also do know how to do it (even though its not legal) I have a cluster that I zeroed out.

also before everyone tries to take the c clip off on some newer vehicles it has a special ink inside that will spray all over the place if you try to take miles off and it will **** the cluster, every car man. is a little diff on there ways of preventing od fraud, its also highly illegal if you get caught, also some cars you can hookl the cable to a drill and then run it in reverse that way you dont waste gas. lets see new s10s and alot of other cars you can dissconnect the vsp and that will make it so you dont record the miles(also makes the speedo inopp.) some cars also wont run properly with the vss unhooked so its just better if you dont do this stupid illegal **** to make your car have less miles. not saying anyone on here does that just saying not a wise thing, and sharing some of the info i have learned over the years from ppl ripping off u haul companies that charge so damn much by the mile.
i have done that before, first tried a drill and relized that would take 3years. then i took it apart and started rolling.....to 836xxx miles
btw mine had 245k on it to begin with...

i heard of ppl renting trucks and other cars.. uhaul type deals and doing that.. so you dotn get charged
but i think so of the older cable cars did allow you to run in rev. and go backwards
no different then when you drive and put it in Neutral , mine stops rolling:

how much have you actually removed mileage wise? i have done some experimenting with this and found that it might go back a few tenths but stop going backwards after a while. like there is a lock that falls as a gear passes and the gear can go back to the lock but no further.

Hmm? Thats interesting as well?? I never went further back then like a tenth of a mile or 2 just to see if it worked I never tried doing it for awhile considering most of the time I was doing this I was actually driving in reverse and didnt have the car jacked up or something so I kind of just drove around for a bit saw that it did it and then stopped.

every car I have ever owned did not go backwards with the odemeter, they have a little one way clutch thing built into them just for that very reason. And I have owned 14 over the last 26 years.
