Default SC61 on D16... Don't laugh.

OK don't laff at the topic. Serious question here. I'm working on a built d16z6 for the next setup the motor is a GE sleeved 77mm (75mm stock) d16z6 block, JE 9:1 slugs and Eagle rods, ARP studs, cometic headgasket. The head will be stock for now just want to get the car running. I have a T3/T04E 46 trim that ill be using in the mean time as well. I was trying to look ahead and see what kinda turbo i could upgrade to in the future. I was wondering what are peoples' thoughts on the SC61 on a built D16 :uts on flame suit::. Obviously the motor would have to be able to revv pretty high to make usable power. Not trying to look for "the biggest turbo i can fit on the car" just looking for a good sized turbo to make use of the motor. i've seen a couple 450 and 500whp d-series... wondering if i could get close hehe.

If i can put a PT67 on my motor, why couldnt you put a SC61 on urs? It may be laggy, but i have seen a few D series w/ 60-1's. Like the Zex CRX. It runs a 60-1 (i believe full T4) which would be crazy. But it all depends on your goals. I have heard that the SC61 spools quicker than a 60-1? If not you could also get a .48ar, it may hamper top end but it would help you get it spooled up.

Here is a link on the Zex CRX

I say go for it!

On the built d16 i am building i am using an SC50 with a .63a/r. It will be interesting to see what it does.

Also, I think a hardcore port and polish job on the head would be VERY crucial to getting that thing spooling before redline. I'd try one on my d series if I had the money.

also considering a larger t3/t04e. like i said just something that will support more power than the 46 trim i have here without going overboard

I would rather run more boost and have less lag.

Currently I have a Ball bearing IHI VF22 its flows 400hp and starts spooling around 3000rpms. I am still running a stock block so have only run upto 12psi the turbo is not in its effiency range yet and will not stay spooled up all the way to redline. Going to big is a pain in the ***.

Matt Patrick was using a smallish T4 last year, with the Nitrous to help spool it.

I was tlaking to him at the NOPI Drag Wars in St Louis about the car... He said he was happy with the way it was running....

Well, that was 3 months ago!

Maybe I'll go by Comp Cams and see him... haven't really shot the **** with him in 2 years now.

sc50 wont make 500whp..... the sc32 which is bigger is supposed to max out around 480 horsepower, i would also guess that is flywheel horse

I believe the sc50 is good for 400+whp. I talked with Rod at Precision and he recomended this turbo for what we are looking for, which is about 350whp @15 psi. He said that this would do the trick.

From what I have been told, the 50 trim wheel is probably the best for the d-series. That being said, there are guys running bigger, I have the 57 trim for mine, but if I could switch I would go a tad smaller. I only plan to hit 300whp and that it. No race gas, nothing more. So for me the 50 trim is ideal. But if you looking to run the race gas and up the boost, I would go bigger.

I run a 60 trim .63 ar turbo at 12.5 lbs on a stock Z6 block (no head gasket, no head stud, nothing) and the car flies. Once the motor goes in, I plan on big power as well. I think this turbo is enough for me, but that is what they all say!!

I got mixed up a little there there Precision's turbo sizing numbers are weird. How about a SC34 or SC52 should do nicely???

When are you hitting boost with that setup?

Im gonna totally agree on this. Im not really sure how much a stock sohc head can flow..but im sure its nowhere near the b-series. You are going to need to work the head heavly to flow that much air...and im sure larger valves etc etc

I wouldnt see why it couldnt spool one...you might have to push the rev limiter pretty high. But that is what a built block is for.

head work would do wonders, along with a Zex 59300 cam, and that cam ONLY

you don't need valve springs though, just retainers. The stock valves are light enough to not need springs.

but, if you do any head work, make sure you start with a Z6 head. The Y8 head is WORTHLESS.

http://www.hondaraceengines.com They'll make over a SOHC head better than anyone. Hehe, someone mentioned in this thread has theirs there now. And Brad will have mine up in there soon...just so we can play around with some new ideas.
