What to look for in a used NSX...
I'm curious what the common problems are with the 91-93 NSX's that one should keep an eye out for? I remember last year Road and Track had an issue that helped a prospective buyer troubleshoot, but I can't find my issue of it. Also, what's a reasonable price for a 91-93' model? I've seen prices fluctuate anywhere from 25-45k depending on the mileage and if any modifications were made. I'm more interested in the price of a bone stock one. Thanks for any advice.
The only common problem I'm aware of is the potential for the transmission to be in the snap ring range. I reserve the right to amend that statement though. Obviously, you'll want to be make sure the previous owner performed regular maintenance (regular oil, 60 or 90K service, blah blah blah). I think anywhere between 28-35K is fair.
But if you're like me, you'll get a "deer in the headlights" look, start blabbering uncomprehensible mutterings (Kimi Raikkonen), and fork over more money than what you should have.

Snap ring transmission.
Window regulators.
Climate control.
Bose audio system.
All nicely documented in the "Troubleshooting" part of the NSX FAQ (answers to Frequently Asked Questions), which is here.
Ponyboy mentioned maintenance. More specifically, remember that the timing belt is recommended for 90K miles or 6 years, whichever comes first, but many owners are driving around with 12-year-old timing belts in their cars. Scary. Also, the water pump should be replaced at the same time as the timing belt. And replacing all the 12-year-old cooling system hoses is a good idea (even though it's not specified in the maintenance schedule).

That was in the June 2001 issue. Go to the NSX FAQ, click on "In the Media", and then "Magazines", and you'll find a link to a complete scan of the article.

Check out the FAQ section called "Pricing", under the "Buy Sell" heading.

My NSX had the jacked bose amps. I went ahead and fixed them myself.

thanks for the info guys! I haven't had a chance to read much on the NSX boards regularly, but the links above are really helpful. I'm reading them as I type this. Good stuff...
