Rechipping pr3 ecu
Has anyone chipped their own pr3 ecu? How hard was it? Got any sites with good instructions?
Also, what kind of chip is best? Has anyone tried those cheap ebay chips? They say that they come with complete instructions...

just a word of advise, you get what you pay for with chips. I inherited a mugen program with my motor swap, and i wouldnt recommend it. It makes the car run way to rich and it has no rev limit
. But as far as instuctions i have no idea

I will essentially state the same thing as the guy above. A friend of mine with a B16 in his 89 hatch ran a so called "mugen chipped" Pr3 ECU and his car ran a whole second slower in the 1/4 at palmdale. Only thing he liked about it was the absence of the 110 mph speed governor. Unless u have the serious mods to go with the chip, do not run one, its worthless. I also heard that the chips are not exact replicas of the real ones.
i have like 8 chips out of all the TODA is the best, and regarding chipping DIY no way unless u know how to sodder. the pr's are difficult in that u have to pull out the origional rom and many people ripp out the copper connecters that make the chip conect, basically its not a DIY job

from what the others have said, thats exactly true. If you dont have the mods, then its not worth getting an aftermarket chip. Some people actually do lose power with these chips, if their car is basically stock or just bolt ons. I havent personally done any obd0 ecu's...but theyre similar to doing the p28's that i do. I pay my soldering guy to do all the dirty/hard work...... You basically just need to know what to desolder, and solder in...if you dont have good soldering skills, I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend you to do it yourself.

if you really want to do it yourself. the safest way to do it without buying a good soldering station, is to dremel the factory eprom so that each pin is sticking up and just touch each one with your soldering iron so that u can extract each pin one by one. then just put a good eprom socket on it so u wont have to go through with the desoldering again and u can swap chips if u change your mind about the mugen chip.
if you really wanna diy this is the best site to learn
