Need help with choice - a ls/vtec civic or a b16 crx
Hey, I have around $3500 in cash to buy a ride - first I was looking @ rexes but then I found a civic with a ls/vtec setup - for $2000 - but it seems to me that it's pretty weird because although this is a 89 dx - it's still a really good deal - but the seller says the car overheats - and says after I buy a radiator and a new gasket it will be fine - what do you guys think? My other option is to get a 89 crx hf with a b16a which would most likely be a little more expensive. Let me know what you guys think thanks. I would like to go turbo afterwards need 2 know if the cars would handle it - both cars have alot of xtras rims etc - about the same possibly the civic has more - let me know your input i appreciate it!!!

with $3500 u should buy and build your own ride. that way u will know that its built with the right parts for your upcoming turbo setup...
he's trying to build up a car, not a go kart, 3500 is nothing for this type of project, i say get the CRX and youre all set, save up and make it better.
YOu are probably better with the CRX/B16 in this case.
I think LS/VTEC is a viable combo(I'm putting a straight LS motor in my CRX, myself, no VTEC), but as they say, it needs to be done right.
Any time you have a motor thats overheating, you have to consider the possible damage. New gasket..does that mean a new head gasket I assume? Theres a possibility of a warped head there, then, which caused the gasket to fail(common with overheating..).
I'd go with a stock B16 first, rather than buy something that might end up needing another $500-$1000 and downtime to get the motor straightened out.
Buying a already swapped car is usually a good money saver

An LS/Vtec is an exspensive build with everyting its a 3k engine build up. If i where you i would buy the civic its already there. It sounds like u need to replace the headgasket, water pump, (and, or) the oil pump its about $5oo in repairs . But turbo is out of the question ls/vtec is atleats 12.0:1 and plus it will run a lot hotter after u boost it ull blow a turbo ls/vtec in a week.
A turbo upgrade is to much $ and TLC go all motor. My ls/vte rips ....B16's are fun with boost though.
