Default don't ever lend out your car!

I am moving out of my house and I needed a truck to move all my stuff. My 29 year old boss has a s-10 so I traded cars with him for 2 days. I just put a fresh b17 block in my del sol, rebuilt turbo, running perfect but untuned. I haven't had a chance to hit the dyno to make sure the fuel curve is good and not detonating. I told him like 20 times not to rag on it too hard and to keep it under 6k because I havent had a chance to tune it. 2 days later I get my car back, smoking. I 'm like wtf did you do? He said he only got on it hard like 10 times and doesn't "think" he went past 7500rpm! What! 10 times??? I have got on 0 times. The worst part is I was just about to sell it. There were a few small things to do, broken door handle, tuning, good cleaning besides that it was ready for the autotrader. 10 minutes after I get my car back a guy shows up hearing I'm selling a turbo honda and is interested in it for 8 grand, but now it's broke. It's a petty nice car, lightweight 17's, big fmic, koni's, loud blow off, should have been no problem to sell, now I'm screwed! Since I'm moved I can't even fix it. I'm sure it's just a toasted piston which isn't that expensive of a fix if you know what your doing but I have no room in the garage and no other car to drive. It doens't smoke that bad so at least I can still drive it but I'm sure when I go to sell it now it will be woth quite a bit less. I look at his as my own fault, I never should have given him the keys but without a truck I wouldn't have been able to move. sorry I just needed to vent some.

No one besides me has driven my car since I started modifying it. Sorry you had to learn the hard way. Good luck.

I know I am an idiot, but he has a bmw thats nearly as fast as the del sol, so going fast insn't something new to him. He's somewhat of a car guy so he understands detonation and such. I thought having been his friend for 6 years and knowing what I've put into this car he could exercise a little self control. All he had to do is drive it to his house and back without ragging on it too hard but as the story bacomes more clear I learning that he got into several drag races and some revlimiter hitting burnouts and 1-2 shifts.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Sounds like your friend needs a lesson in self control, and maybe he needs to turn his hearing aid up. I'd make him pay for it. Especially, since he admitted to you that he had been racing with it.

Good Luck... and now you know not to lend your car to ANYONE!

Hell no. Any of my cars that are fully modified I won't lend it to no one. Never will unless its a super beater like a broken down 4 door family wagon sedan.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but it was silly to give an un-tuned turbo setup to someone even if you did tell them not to get on it hard. Is he at least going to pitch in for getting it fixed?

Sounds like a pretty shitty trade....I only trade when the other car is the same value or greater and I'm not talking about blue book.

Lesson learned.

My wife doesn't even get to drive my car. My mechanic and business partner can race it anytime they want however. Either one of them I trust to repair any damage done.

Good luck with it all...When it rains it pours it seems like.

EDIT* Get New Friends.

you sir, are an uneducated dumb ****. that's like saying everyone who drives a hatch has a 75 hp 4-banger. forget the SI and other models, and the swaped hatches.

Could have just RENTED a truck for a small price and still had a sweet del sol to come back to. Id never let anyone drive my car, let alone have it for 2 days.

if he supposedly your friend he would have exercised more self control than that. you DONT mess with a mans car, to me that is like a slap in the face. he ISNT your friend. a friend would have respected your wishes. **** him.

I could see not getting mad since he was helping you out and all, but he directly went against what you said. He got into races etc. etc.

I would give him a bill and reconsider how much of a friend he really is.

Seriously make him pay for it. Here in Ohio we have something called "verbal contract" where a man's word is as good as him putting it on paper (assuming there are any witnesses). If he can't man up and admit that he intentionally went against your one rule, he's not your friend.

He should pay for it either way.
