Guess what I'm holding?

Yahoo photos suck. They change the links at random so I don't know how long this will show up if at all.
It's a front pad for an Enzo, BTW. The rear pad for it is actually the Evo/STi *front* pad....

Back in the spring of '02 (during my unpleasent unemployment) I interviewed at a comapny that made train brake shoes/pads. These pads are not much smaller. Seriously.

Aren't those brakes carbon-carbon?? You guys developing carbon pads now?

In a recent Car & Driver article, the car they tested was on it's second set of pads and rotors... the owner burned them up in something like 1200 track miles
actually here is the article:

"Also, Rapp, 77, and his son, Robert, actually drive the car. Hard. Within a month of delivery Rapp’s Enzo showed 1200 miles on the odo, about half of which were accumulated on tracks. Rapp likes to believe his is the first customer-delivered Enzo in the world to burn through a set of $6000 carbon-ceramic brake pads and a $24,000 set of similarly constructed brake rotors. You just gotta love this guy."

If I had to guess, I'd say the pad in MaddMatt's hand in the pic above is from that same car. Bob Rapp lives in NC and Carbotech, where Matt works, is also in NC. What are the chances...?

Oh no. But the Enzo owners (or at least this one) is tired of paying $6,000 for pads and $24,000 for rotors. It is my understanding that he is commisioning a custom system to relace his made of more common materials (like, say, iron rotors). Should be a damn sight less than $30,000 for a brake job. Which is criminal, IMO.
You know an oil change on one of those sets you back 8 hundred?

Which is illegal.... (to require the use of a part/service/fluid to satisfy the vehicle's warranty and not provide it free of charge)

hmmm... I'd say pretty good odds on that
I'd forgotten about Carbotech being "up north" now...

Here's another picture:

Notice the quarter I placed for reference. The bottom pad is the rear Enzo pad and is dimensionally equivalent to the Evo8/STi Brembo front pad.
