Default Race engine build up (trackracing) for My 1998 ITR

Hy Guy's,

I live in Belgium and recently bought a usdm b18c1 balanced and blue printed
0 miles on motor
AEBS 85mm sleeves
OEM honda bearings (main and rod)
JE 85mm 13.5:1 custom pistons
micro polish crank
hot tanked and super clean
eagle rods

Now I will receive this block this week and want to start building it for the next race year. I now have a B18C6 (European B18C5) with the following mods : Cold air! intake , Edlebrock
ITM , Skunk2 stage II cams , SS full exhaust with SS header. Mugen ECU &
Apexi VAFC , I have 209 Flywheel HP on th eDYNO.

Now on the B18C1 Block I bought I want to build it for endurance racing , so I want it to last for a long time ! I am not looking for TOP performance 9 sec engine , but for a strong running 2.0 liter engine with arround 220 WHP.
Should I put my ITR head on this block with out any modifications ? I have a secund option , I have a stock B16A cylinder head , that I can start modifïng ? Please let me know your recomendations on valves ,rockers, headers , valve springs , retainers, porting (any detailed pics ? ) etc... I will swap mu Skunk cams in this head. I had new Skunk2 valve springs and Ti retainers in my car , but only after 15 hours one of the springs broke in two and messed up the whole engine , so I already had to replace a complete longblock ! Now I replaced the long block and swaped the Skunk2 cams , but put new stock valve sprinfs & stock retainers. I know nobody recomends it , but I was thinking : if Honda sells a new ITR and they are giving a 3 year warranty on this engine , then the stock parts will not brake after a few hours of track racing. Some people over here say I should use Honda B16A valves , because there thicker than the ITR ones .
Over here in Europe , there is little know how to tune the Honda's. Because most trackrace cars can be bought from the factory, Porsches , BMW's , Renault's etc.........

So shoot all the information to me, please

Kind Regards

Douglas verbanck
Belgium

Other then doing a little port work and valve job on the head sounds read to be bolted up.

However your theory about buying a new ITR motor lasting 3 years. Well yeah of corse when its stock. However I would never run Skunk2 Stage 2 cams with a stock ITR valvetrain. Atleast upgrade the valve springs especailly if this is going to be a high reving constant high rpm track motor. It's just added insurence and common sense.

For example....

ITR Springs
Installed spring pressure of 50lbs
Spring pressure @ 11mm of lift = 140lbs
Spring pressure @ 11.5mm of lift = 150lbs
Spring pressure @ 12mm of lift = 158lbs but you get coil bind

No need to go any further

Other valve springs such as TODA, Skunk2, Portflow etc.... are running around 175-180 lbs @ 11mm, 180-185ish @ 11.5mm and around the 185-195 range for 12.0mm with some such as the Portflow and TODA's ranging @ the 190-210 range @ 12.5mm of lift with still anywhere between 25-40K's left.

The ITR's only had about 20K left @ 11.5mm before bind. I believe the Skunk2 are rated @ 12.3mm lift and 11.8mm of lift on the intake and exhaust cam accordingly.

I'd step the valvetrain up if I were you. Heck if I was building a road car or endurence car I would do it on a stock B-Series just because.

What brand is the "SS full exhaust with SS header"? SuperSprint?

On the valve springs , sure all this figures look nice , but why do the Skunk2 springs brake after a short time ?
How aboutrh theTi retainers , theye wear out quickly.

I am going to put the Crower Eibach springs and Ti retainers and the Crower valves in the head I am building.

So why would you want to use a fully built 13.5:1 race motor? Just use your stock motor and bolt-ons. Take the cash you save to pay for replacement parts and wear items such as pads, tires, rotors, etc.

My .02 cents.

Hi,

All that has been done , I've raced this year with a B18C6 engine , I only had 209 HP on the flywheel with the 1.8 setup with stoc pistons. So i want some moer and I could do a VERY good deal on a new build B18C1 85mm AEBS sleved engine complete shortblock ($2.500). and I have that B16A head and want to build a complete new engine and keem py B18C6 as a spare engine.

"I only had 209 HP on the flywheel with the 1.8 setup "
If that SS exhaust system is SuperSprint, then that is why you only made 209 flywheel hp.

Oh, ok. A lot of aftermarket exhaust systems falls under that "SS" catagory, then.
