Go pick up an EF/CRX for under a $1000 what should I do
I have some spare time on my hand. I also have many tools at home and a big gated enclosed yard at home. Though there are about 2 years left for me to drive. Should I buy a CRX/EF under a $1000 I know I could earn that. What should I expect when I buy one other than looking at a fried drivetrain. What tools should I have (I don't have a hoist yet). Also if I do buy one how much paint will I need to paint the car. Also are there places that buy fried engines?? Junk yard?
Should I hunt after years (90-91) or a 88-89? Also milage and what needs to be fixed. And what modifications are done I've noticed some a lowered, some have POS exhausts, and others have clears I could sell on Ebay.
Yeah, for under $1000, you'll probably need to do some body work, and drop a new motor in there. That stuff is easy to get together if you have time and a way to earn $ on your hands. Definitely a good way to learn your way around a car.
You can look at all generations, but if it's a CRX, the only real diff's on the Si at least are that as you move into later years (90 - 91) you will gain a few HP, a few lbs, and a few round disks for the brakes in the rear.
You'll probably be looking at the HF/STD/DX models, which will save you a few lbs over the Si model.
Either way, go out and find one and feel free to ask q's and use the search.

Yup I know that well I'd probably get an HF if it were a crx then find a dead SI. or a DX civic hatch. I want a 90-91 because they look better though I can still change the bumpers and swap the front's and the headlights/tails

2 years left before you drive?
You should be able to find someone giving away a motor free by then. It happens, people do a swap and then their significant other wants the leftovers gone real quick.
You're in LA? You could go buy a sohc ZC for $350 from an engine importer.
