That is the gods honest truth right there. I have a friend who manufactures body kits, and we looked into making front ends, it just wasn't cost effective for me to try to make one ourselves. The materials, and time necessary made it completely too costly.

you dont just get on a whim one day to build a fiber fanything let alone a front end , its years of practice to do the kind of work these people do.
i have the general idea of the rpocess from watching one of my FG/CF fab buddies, but it takes more thna just watching to do it. I give mad respect to thme for any one that fabs anytihng custom to tell you the truth, ive seen some wacky **** in the last few years being done and it just amazes me the talent of some people

I built my own for my Colt, I did a one piece front end and a trunk lid. they turned out pretty well. I'm going to add some flairs this winter to cover the tires.
I'd buy one if its available for your car, its really alot of time in one project for a one off part.

i make fiber glass one pice front ends for helicopters all day, and i know it's not hard but time consuming. it all depends on how you want to make it, if you want to make it nice and identical to the front end that's all ready on the car it would cost more to build the mold alone then it would be to buy a premade one. also if you want it to be lighter than the original front end and strong at the same time you would have to lay it up some what thin and vacum bag it for strength.
it's totaly posable though.
the first thing i made out of fiber glass was a hood for my crx when i was like 16, and every body told me i was waisting my time, when it turned out perfict they ate there words... now it's my job.

thanks for the postive replys. Im not an idot that thinks i can just go out and make one in a couple of hours. I was more interested in the steps it takes to learn a skill like this. I know the question is short and vague.
Anyone remember the C-Speed racing project Civic?
They made thier fiberglass front end for it. They basically just layed the glass on top of the fenders and hood, let it dry, and there it was.
Not the best way to go about it, but I guess it turned out ok. It isn't painted now though, it would still need a bunch of bodywork to make smooth enough for paint.

1) Build a mold or have one made.
2) Buy sheets or rolls of fiber glass.
3) Buy sheets or rolls of carbon fiber.
4) Buy resin and other hazardous materials.
5) Buy mixing equipment.
6) Buy a face mask and latex gloves.
If you can get all this done, I can help you move on to the next steps. The process isn't simple but it's not all that hard either. It just takes a lot of $$$ and time.

if you want some better instructions, and your planning on doing a one off of the original front.
1. option a. wet sand the existing front end, with 320~500 grit sand papper. if you make it to smoth it wont absorb the wax and the fiber glass will bond to the front end.
option b. if you don't want to sand the front end you can coat it with pva(polly vinal alchole). but there's a better chance of it bonding to the front end.
2. use medal tape to cover the gaps between the fenders, hood, head lights, and bumper. the same medal tape you can get at home depo, it's ushualy aluminum, some times tin.
3. apply a releasing agent like freekote all over it.
4. wax the hell out of it. use some type of mold release wax, i use the meguiars mold release wax and it works pretty good, i'v heard of people using turtle wax but i wouldn't try it.
5. lay it up with fiber glass, use what ever rezin you want (epoxy it the stronest but much more expensive then polyester.) start out with some thing thin like . 3/4 oz. matt then a thicker layer of matt like 1oz.
6. after it cures sand it into shape and maby even spray it with gellcote.
there's allot of other little things i didn't mention but thats pretty much a basic run down.
if you have any other questions you can just hit me up.
