okay, i was screwing in the bolts and they were not tight at all and then all of a sudden snap! the bolt broke in 2. now i dont want to tighten the others tight because i dont want that to happen. if you have a ITR strut brace did you tighten the bolts until they couldnt tighten any more??? mine is on tight but the bolts arnt tightend until they dont turn.

 

Are we talking about the front strut bar? When I got my original Type-R bar, I tightened the bolts down until they were tight. Probably as tight as the stock gsr bar was. Never had a problem, yet.

 

Well you can hammer the stud through the bottom and run a regular bolt and nut to hold the bar on. It should never break in half unless your putting all of your strength into it.

You will probably have to remove the wheel liner to pull the stud out of the bottom side.

 

According to the Helms service manual, you should torque the bolts to 16 lbs. I thought that was pretty low but the manual should be crrect.

 

a lot of torques seem kind of low in the manual
that's because a good portion of the bolts are in shear as opposed to in tension or torsion. If there's no load on the head of the bolt, then there's no reason to torque it up. It's also a way to save money for the manufacturer. Why buy a bolt that can handle a lot of tension if it's used in shear.
