Default How many hours for first time e-swap?

How many hours did it take for you to do your first engine swap, like a b series into an EF? What difficulties did you encounter? Did you use a lift or no?

well i just did a single cam to single cam but it took us 8 hours that is including retaping the rear mount bolts and putting all new front/rear main seals, water pump, cam seal. And using honda bond on everything. The last on i did another single cam to single cam on my car and it took about 5 hours.

The above is pretty fast if it was a 1 man operation.

Depending on your experience, I'd say plan on taking a weekend at the most. You might knock it out in one day if you've done other car related work, but if you're by yourself, you'll probably be finishing up the little stuff the next day if you're doing a B series.

Once you've done it once, you will be able to fly through on. I did a ZC swap for a guy this past week in the evenings after work and had it done in a matter of about 2 hours per night for 3 nights... including putting some other parts on the car for the guy (full exhaust etc).

Having a partner knocks a lot of time off of it, so if you can get someone to help... do it.

The stuff you'll run in to will be **** not coming apart. Putting the motor in is the easy part.

i figure i can get my uncles to help, they are both mechanics and one installs engines for a living. So it might be done in a few days then. They usually do mercedes and volkswagen diesel swaps, because when the chasis of an old rabbit caves in they buy a new chasis and put the old engine in the new chasis.

my first swap took two days. it was worth it though. you usually always overlook something and either need a part or a wire diagram prinout. am i right?

HEh, my swap took me about a week! But my brother just happened to decide to swap out his DSM motor at the exact same time, so we had both of our cars in the garage. All of our tools were mixed up, and there wasn't much room to work... Plus I had to piece together the hybrid Z6/Y8 motor while it was out of the engine bay, along with some minor wiring & clutch work.

I could easily do it in about 2 days by myself if I had the time. If I had someone to help, I could definitely complete a swap in less than 12 hours. I guess I've always been kinda slow while working on cars though...

really depends what tools and access to engine hoists etc etc....

my first go around, i had air tools , lift , engine hoist ( didnt use ) , furniture dolley

pulled the motor out of a 99 EK , put in the stock d16y7 , pulled the motor out of a 96 EK and put in that b16 and had a friend rewire it.... took us i think about 10 - 12 hours or so, lots of breaks and being lazy :-P
