Default Falken Azenis LOST their grip?!

I own a 93 del Sol S. It's modifications include:

-Complete 93 del Sol Si suspension and brakes
-22mm front sway bar/nothing in the rear
-Standard rate Ground Control coilovers
-KYB AGX (2 in the front/3 in the rear)
-94 del Sol VTEC wheels with 195/60/14 Falken Azenis

I recently had the Azenis mounted and my first impression was "wow..these tires just GRAB THE ROAD". I had the car aligned maybe 2-3 days after the tires were mounted. Everything was FINE and DANDY for a little while. Recently I've noticed that they are loosing their grip dramatically. They have LESS THEN 3,000 miles on them...they have FULL tread...no signs of irregular wear.

I used to be able to pretty much stand on my brake pedal and BARELY loose traction. Now it seems with "firm pressure" I can break traction very easily. I figured it could be just that my brakes are "in check"...so I pushed my car through several aggressive turns and noticed that the tires feel ENTIRELY glazed over...they just SLIDE without a "screech" or any noise for that matter.

I plan on rotating them this weekend as I am installing new tie rods. Does anyone else have this problem after so little mileage?!?!

I'm not exactly THRILLED with the performance of these tires anymore.

Your suspension is going to make the car understeer like mad. No amount of grip will help you, front will push and thats it.

About traction issues when braking, wierd. All experience with the azenis is superior to pretty much any other street tire.

22mm Front sway, with no rear sway = ugly understeer.

so why am I OVERsteering? I almost did a 180 last night going through this turn...it felt as though my rear end just started sliding like it was on ice.

Mine are pretty sensitive to temperature. This is the time of year that the temps start to drop, and the Azenis lose some grip.

ya, are you turning hard while they're cold? As far as the oversteer goes, loosen up your AGX's in the rear and see if that helps.

He's in texas which is why i didnt mention temps, although the temps can drop alot at night, cant they? Azenis + cold = EWWW.

And the spin could very well be you going into a turn Hot, then pushing out (understeer), then lifting the throttle and inducing lift-throttle-oversteer and spinning out.

Also, check your tire pressures. They can play a key roll.

No hard turning here...although I used to be able to just THROW this car into turns and it would just GRIP.

I'm thinking loosening the rear end a little WILL help...I'll give it a shot.

i found that with mine they really dont like cold weather/roads)
i live in minnesota so for mornings i have to take it easy till there good an warm
also what pressure are u running them at?
azenis can handle really low pressure
try checking your pressure right after u drive it for a while (warm pressure)
i always had mine under 30lbs(warm) for me they got squirlie if they were any harder
and for track i had them as low as 26lbs warm
hope that helps u

Temp is a big factor for z rated or v rated tires..

i run 42-44F and 40R. hehe

You might have just gotten used tot hem and your entry speeds are faster than when you didnt have your azenis.

I drove a car with potenzas on the freeway after driving my car, alost slide off the onramp/turn around, its a big difference

Under hard cornering you want more pressure in the tires. But for the street that'll just make the inside wear fast, so thats why the lower pressure there.

The type-r swaybar got rid of the understeer

go buy some track claw and give them a light glaze, this will allow you to have a little more stick to the pavement, with a little slight tire ware of course but hell those tires are like 40 bux who really cares

for most tires that's true because there's a good chance of rooling the sidewall but azenis have ultra hard sidewalls
they made them that way spisificly so u could run lower pressure without rolling your sidewalls
i guess though everyone has there preforance so if that's how he likes driving it then
i 'd sugjest haveing him try the lower pressure to see if he likes it
one more thing is that pressure when his tires are warm or cool?

did you get a sheet from the alignment shop with your settings on it?? Post it up, theres no reason why azenis would lose grip after 3000 miles. It is not the tires.

i have talked to several people that siad that even with there pressure set at 32lbs
they still had center wair (which means they're to hard)
i only had mine for about 5k so i didn't have time to see how they wair at 30lbs but i'm pritty sure your going to find alot of center wair after 10 or 15k miles

Warm. When filling cool we normally go about 2 lbs low of our objective.
