Code number, how do I tell?

Would anyone know why my ECU would flash more than 20 times? Also, how many seconds are there in between flashes in a code? Mine is flashing about every 8 seconds, but it will flash until I can't count anymore. Is that a code 1? Possibly an ECU problem? Cheers.

long flash = ten
short flash = 1
There will be space between each code and after. Then it starts over again repeatig them.

I dont think it would flash 20 shorts.........just 2 longs.
