Default thoughts on 04 s2k

Im a tech at a honda dealer and i got to PDI the first 04 s2k at our dealership. I have driven several of the older ones and I think they are a blast to drive. The new one, in my opinion handles quite a bit better but I dont think its quite as fast. Maybe its just cuz the motors not broken in or mayebe it just feels slower cuz there is less revs on the tach when you shift. Has anyone else driven the both of them to compare?

Glad to hear you all take good care of the cars before delivery.

I would definatly miss the mystique of the 9k redline, now it seems like an H22. I can only imagine how well it handles, considering everyone say it far exceeds the earlier models. And I dont like the new exterior adjustments what so ever. So other than the handling, Ill stick with my 2000.

Going to drive one in a couple weeks, I really don't have any opinions of them now except for the appearance differences.

So you are hitting VTEC on the PDI? Is that normal?

Do you realize the instruction manual tells you not to until 600 miles?

Where are you going to drive one... most honda dealerships wont' let you drive it since they're getting 1 to 2 at most and keeping them in the showroom

I'm not trying to jack the thread, but if I had enough money, I'd buy an 04, and drop my 00 drive train into the 04.

I say this with the assumption that the 00-03 and 04+ are interchangable.

If I know Honda enough, they are. 88 - 00 D series MPFI engines are interchangeable with MINIMAL efforts... hopefully the S2000 is the same way.

I've driven the 00-03 enough times to say that the 04 is much much improved now that I own a 04. Much smoother acceleration, they closed up on the ratio making every shift dropping right back into VTEC. Granted that it has 1k less redline but the 2.2L Makes the same power yet more torque without it. Drive one and you'll know exactly what im talking about.

It takes over a 100miles before the tires wear off the mold release compounds. I doubt there is any real cornering performance until the tires season.

Poo-Poo on you for banging a future owner's car around on PDIs.

I am not sure if they are interchangeable, but the tranny's have been beefed up and are now geared better... why would you want a 00 tranny (which is the worst one they made, ex. clutch tsb)

Well obviously, I'd fix the Clutch if pulled the entire drivetrain, and once again, I assume the 04 tranny would bolt right up to 00-03 F20s... so WOW.. now that'd be a great combo huh, 9000 Redline, better gearing, better handling, improved interior and (for me) a glass rear window... tada..

Ok, who wants to buy me an 04?????????????????
