Default Quick Auto-X question...

This Saturday will hopefully be my first Auto-X, and I'm not sure exactly what class my car is in. Is it vital that I have it all worked out before I get there, or will someone there be able to tell me?

If it's an SCCA event: http://www.moutons.org has the rules. Look at the classing as fart as what mods. Since you say 'stuff' skip stock off the bat.

Check out Street Touring (STX) 1st for your mods, then Street Prepared....

Other than that, Do a search here.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess what I'm asking is, will anyone there be able to tell me if I pick the wrong class, and will it matter?

edit - Yes it's an SCCA, and the link you gave is the one I've been looking at for classification.

Remember, the responsibility of car classification falls strictly on the driver. If you pick the work class that's your fault. However, there should be many other drivers who can help you figure out the right class.

Why don't you post what car you have and ALL mods done to the car. We can tell you what class you will run in.

*prediction: By the letter SM, but STX realistically*

Ok, I have a bad feeling it's SM, but here goes:

Toda A's
ST-Corsa cam gears
Mugen head gasket
Clutchmasters FW w/ Exedy cerametallic
Field SFC
B&M FPR
AEM
Light Weight Battery
DC JDM 4-1 w/ Carsound cat

I think that about does it.

Hehe...it's ok, I'm only gonna be there for one reason, and it sure isn't to try (or expect) to win anything.

SM2 is for 2 seaters or even larger displacement or car weight than allowed in SM.

does your region have a novice class? if so, I would try for that. SM is not a novice friendly class -- meaning that the machinery and drivers playing there can be wicked fast. I know you want to properly class your car, but to me that's much less important than trying to maximize the learning you're about to experience, given that this will be your first autocross. Good luck and have fun.

Well there's been a change in plans. Originally I was going to go to one at Daytona Speedway because it was SUPPOSED to be in the infield. But I've heard that it's just going to be a normal one in a parking lot. So instead I think I'm going to Gainsville Raceway where you're supposed to get on part of the track or something, I'm not really sure. Either way it should be interesting.

I don't understand why people always sweat what class they are in for their first event. Every autocross I've ever been to has a novice class. Run that.

what are the restrixctions. or are there any? is it just something to let the participant get used to how the event is handled?

It varies from club to club. For instance, you can run WWSCC (a local club) novice class 3 times, before moving to your class. That's the only restriction.
