salvage title?

salvage title?

If a car is salvaged title, would you be able to know what happened to the car (wrecked or thief recovery) by checking the vin?

yes, if i am correct they stamp the title, and it is recorded in the bmv(or dmv depending on ur state) files

It won't always show the entire history of the car (primarily accidents), but title changes should be shown.

Yup carfax only shows those that have been reported to the DMV.. we all know if the accident was more than $500 you have to but most of us dont.

Another loophole in carfax is if the car changes states it doesn't pick up on things that happen in previous states.

That is correct. When buying a car and are unsure about its history, ask to look at the original pink slip and it'll tell you right there whether it's salvaged or not.

Yeah be careful with that because you never know what really happened until you look into it further.......I know here in PA you can have a salvage title and it could have been either stolen or wrecked.

Carfax is really overrated.... but worth the money for the info that it does provide... so i guess it's not so overrated after all..... just don't think that since you have the Carfax report, you know everything that has happened to the vehicle
