Default 88' STD hatch, 88' Si gauge cluster

I have a 1988 civic hatchback base model . I also have a 1988 crx Si gauge cluster that I want to put in. I understand that 90-91 is just plug and play, But it isn't like that for 88-89,unfortunately. SO has anyone put in a 88-89 si cluster into their 88-89 dx or std.? any help will be much appreciated, I'm tired of guessing rpm ?

Call J&C Imports, as I'm the moderator for them today, they have even done the EDM cluster fit from the 91 to the 88 CRX

it is still plug and play. It is one of those issues where if you get a cluster for a '88, the cluster has to be from a 88-89 civic/crx. If you were to get a 90-91 cluster for your car, then you would have to do some wiring.

But like alot of parts on civics/crxs the rule is 88-89 parts are interchangable with 88-89 cars and
90-91 parts are interchangable with 90-91 cars

Did I mention it's a base model hatchback?I possibly have a messed up cluster, if what you say about the interchangeability is true

Are you sure its not a 89 crx si cluster? the 88 crx si clusters are different from the 89 si cluster and those are not plug and play with the hatches. the 88 si will work fine in a dx/std hatch, the 89 will not due to the fact that 1 it has a seatbelt light so the leads on the cluster are different and 2 because of the seatbelt on the door. I just recently put a 88 crx si cluster into my 89 dx hatch and it works perfect. I tried a 89 crx si one but because the leads are different the tach didnt work and either did the fuel or temp gauges.

On the harness in the back of the cluster on the first plug (A plug i believe) in spot 1 there should be a blue wire. the plug i am talking about is the one on the left side when sitting in the drivers seat.

There's no blue wire. I know the blue wire runs from the distributor. My gas and temp work great. The cluster is from a 1988 crx Si

yup, it's an 89 crx Si cluster. Obviously the dude i got it from didn't know what he was talking about, but you can't complain about free ****. Anyway, is there a way to hook up the 89 rex cluster in my hatch? I don't really want a out-of-cluster tach because it atrracts attention and my car stays out at night

I didn't know that. I put a '89 cluster in my '88 but I guess it is different. Mines came out of a 4 door civic and it plugged right up. So that '89 CRX si is something I didn't know about.

find the wiring diagram for the 89 crx si, and the diagram for the 88 SI and then just repin the plugs.

T-Mo yes as far as the civics go they are the same from 88-89 because there is no seatbelt on the doors in those years. Its only the crx that is different.
