Default Handling between two similar cars

This happened a few years ago but I did some hotlapping with two different Civics. One Civic was a 95 Si hatchback, all stock. Stock intake, header, exhaust, suspension, etc. D16Z6, AC, power steering, 5 speed, stock 185/60-14 tires. The other Civic was a 94 EX coupe, D16Z6, AC, power steering, 5 speed, 195/50-15 NT450s, Eibach Pro Kit springs w/stock dampers, Neuspeed front strut bar, Ingalls camber kit, Iceman intake, DC ceramic header, and GReddy exhaust.

In Solo2, I would be marginally faster in the Si, despite having the EX feel better. At Buttonwillow, the EX and Si were about the same, with the EX just a bit ahead.

Any insights to the performance differences? This was awhile ago so I am pretty sure I was inconsistent and still learning a lot about spirited driving.

PS, the EX put out about 120hp to the wheels and the Si about 108hp.

Perhaps part of the reason they ran similar times on the track is the weight difference..? The EX has slightly better suspension and power but laos weighs more than the Si.

Perhaps the Si has the edge in Solo2 b/c of it's smaller size and maneuverability...
