I do not run it in my car, and I need to cover it. I was just proving a point.

If you can get that better looking, it will prevent mishifts!

It would take years to get it through that pattern to shift! I would never use that.

haha thats funny I bet it would look cool once its covered but shifting would probably be difficult unless the gates are positioned tight and perfectly around the shaft.......lol

Yes it will take forever to get through that... i would of made it more of a speed gate, so it could serve some sort of purpose if any

but props for you for taking your time to fabricate it

i guess you don't ever plan on shifting real fast with that thing.. there is no way i could race with that thing in the way.. good lord good job on making ur self loose half a second down the 1/4 miles cuz you had to look down to shift..
sorry but thats the dumbest thing i've seen on this board

i bet as your car gets older you wont even be able to get into some gears. does it make a hollow sound every time you hit metal with the shifter? that would be annoying also

wasn't there a post a while back with a diagram for a gated shifter but the gates were angled? Maybe you could file down the gates, angle them, and smooth them out.

**** it. Did anyone read the "I do not run this in my car" part?

Everyone is right, it sucks ballz, the gates slow it down tremendously. It is made out of hardboard and fiberglass. I may run just the console (with a shift boot), it looks pretty good when it is covered. I built the console to hold guages, and added the shift gate to prove a point.

Cost on console:
wood $4
metal $2
bolts $1
fiberglass $10

Cost on shift gates:
metal $free
machining $free

Are you going to mount a subwoofer in all that fiberglassed wood? That thing is a fire hazard.

people here always knock ideas unless they make you go faster. When you are just having fun with being an individual, people hate. Nice project, and keep on keeping on...

Krustin answered the question "could you..."
Now the answer to "should you..." is another matter altogether
