stock, an SI is about 2000 lbs. I think the 88 is a little lighter...
they can be down to like 1500 lbs in race trim, but not for the street.
If you can get it to 1800 on the street, you will have a light **** ride!

actually, when i weighed my stock 90 civic si, it checked in at about 2200+ lbs. i believe you can get it down to 1500 lbs if you swap EVERYTHING possible out with fiberglass/carbon fiber/titanium...but most likely, you can get it down to 2000+ lbs or so

I have the following data points that are a bit different than the first reply... these are on my scales:
stock 88 base model hatch - 2040 lbs
stock 89 si hatch - 2182
89 si hatch in sts trim (basic suspension with minimal lightening) - 2105
88 base model hatch with si motor in sts trim - 2005

from edmunds (a great source for real weight figures)
89 si hatch 2180
91 si hatch 2290 or so (but 90-91 came standard with a/c so that weight includes the a/c... plus different doors, seatbelts, and all that stuff)

Hope that helps. The 88 base model is the lightest of the good suspension hondas.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ChrisShen &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">91 si hatch 2290 or so (but 90-91 came standard with a/c so that weight includes the a/c... plus different doors, seatbelts, and all that stuff)</TD></TR></TABLE>

i dunno about 91, but 90 si's had a/c as an option. it didn't come on my car and i know it wasn't removed because i bought my car from old people who wouldn't bother doing that anyway...but i sure wish i had a/c sometimes though

Edmunds.com is a VERY good place to get actual weight of a car. I just looked it up, and the weights are as follows:
(they only go back to 90)

90 and 91 std hatch 2127
92 cx hatch 2094

90 dx hatch 2167
91 dx hatch 2158
92 dx and vx hatch 2178

90 si hatch 2291
91 si hatch 2284
92 si hatch 2326

91 ex sedan 2368
92 ex sedan 2480
92 dx sedan 2275

and for reference, my 88 std hatch weighed in a 2041 on my scales. But to my original point... and i stand corrected.... the a/c on the 91 si hatch (not the 90) puts weight on the car's edmunds.com weight that really isn't there... it's just weighed with A/C for the first time. There is about a 50 lb difference from 89 si hatch to 90 si hatch when the doors/seatbelts changed and not change to 91 that i know of.

What it really shows to me is that the lightest car out there is the 88 std hatch (i'm assuming my scales are close), with the 92 CX not far behind. If you go with the SI which has a sunroof and a few other things added, you are adding realistically about 100 lbs, which is also the difference between the 89 si hatch and my 88 std hatch hybrid (with d16a6 from the si/ex) that i have sitting at my shop and which are similarly prepared to sts specs. btw... sts is the SCCA Solo2 Street Touring "S" category. The 89 si hatch above is the one that is a 2 time national champion (once with Jason Tipple and then with me last year)...and took 2nd this year by only .067 seconds over 2 days of racing (110 seconds total). The 88 std hatch hybrid is the car i built for sts this year, which was always about 3 tenths faster on a 40 second course than the 89 si, but i couldn't take it to nationals because of a last minute wiring problem that couldn't be solved in time.

Next year the 88 std hatch hybrid becomes an SCCA Solo2 SM (Street Mod) car, and I estimate it will weigh around 1900 lbs (the minimum weight for a fwd forced induction car). It's going to have added a turbo, intercooler, electromotive, lsd, lighter wheel and tire package, smaller battery, carbon fiber hood, maybe lighter front fenders, race seats, no back seat (the only interior removal allowed in SM), integra brakes, .... i think that's it. And the motor is being build oversized with sleeves and i expect to make 250 hp easy with around 12 lbs of boost. That's a formula for a low 12's second car that handles better on the autocross course than just about everything except open wheel race cars. Should be fun!

chris' weights are right on. my 91 standard weighs in at 2180 with coilovers, ac still intact and autopower rollbar.
i can't wait to see chris' car run next year. it should be suler fast in the SM class. chase rodney and those pesky bimmers. ill be pickin up the rear in either sts in my car or sm in a wrx. (im a closet subaru lover )
