Default Help me pick an EG trim for HPDE

I am going to sell my current vehicle and buy an EG that will be a dedicated HPDE vehicle. The problem is I dont know what the differences between the trims (ie CX, VX, Si, etc) to make an educated decision. I already know which motor (and coresponding power) comes with which trim and what the vehicle weights are. Can anyone enlighten me as to what other performance advantages the Si has over the CX and VX (like brakes, ABS, etc) other than power. I'm trying to weight performance vs. price. And the capability of a motor swap is always in the back of my mind in the event that it does not become a dedicated race car.

PS Im sorry if this is a n3wb post but I have been interested in this vehicle for a little while and frequent visitation and searches in this forum over the past 2 months have not helped me make up my mind. Feel free to post links to other threads or websites corresponding to this topic.

Thanks.
Nick

CX or VX.

92 CX is wired for VTEC and 92-95 VX is wired for VTEC.

I'd pick an SI IMO - brakes, potent motor in there, luxuries for a daily driver/weekend racekaa

umm ok - any reason. Not everyone wants a lightweight no amenities cx, vx. I am just giving him another choice to look into and my opinion.

I personally own a vx, and since your in HPDE and trying to learn why go through all the trouble of swapping in another motor, bigger brakes, etc when the SI has already potent enough parts to make the car a fun car on the track..

Unless you want to track a VX, i dont think that wuold be too fun

I would pick a VX over any, followed by CX, then DX, and last Si...

You say its going to be a dedicated hpde car. does that mean your going to drive it as a mostly race car or also daily driven?

If your going in the race direction then get the lightest model (vx or cx) and swap motor, brakes etc. if you want something a little nicer for daily use then get the si.

I personnaly would go for the light weight option but thats just me.
Also if you plan on in the future going towards some form of competitive racing like honda challenge i reccomend you look into the rules and figure out the limits for modifying stuff and start building in that direction from the start.

just my 2 cents

92-95 vx since they are already wired for vtec and lightweight. I does not take much effort to roll down your own window and sunroofs make your car hotter in the summer. Just my 2 pennies.

si has better suspension off the bat, but its heavier. if you're going to get better suspension anyway, might as well get a lighter model such as the vx or cx. i own a vx and im pretty happy with it, the only thing i wish i had was a sunroof, and im not worried about the rear drums because in time ill have 4 wheel disc's. so theres my "2 cents"

This is my way of looking at it - you would take more time by bringing a vx, cx, dx up to par to start doing HPDE unless you do it in stock trim.

Faster you are on the track = the better...

sure it would take more time, but you can have the advantage over a si, being lighter. a si just has better performance stock-wise

expolain your reason.

If the car is going to remain mostly stock....do you just want to lose or something???

Ok, Si comes with front sway bar, I think 21mm, rear disc, some come with ABS(option in 94-95) and the stronger engine with way better gearing.

if the car is going to remain mostly stock than a si is way better, if you're going to do a swap, its wired for vtec already and b-series motor's drop in easy, as well as the vx.

the vehicle will not remain stock. the vehicle will immediately be fitted with new dampers, springs, harnesses and a rollcage. i mainly wanted to know if the power of the Si will outweigh the extra weight. Also I take it that the Si has rotors instead of drums??? But the engine will remain stock for quite a while. If it does turn into a dedicated race car in the future I need to retain the factory engine. If I choose to not race the car then I will likely do a motor swap. If the Si has rotors at all four corners, I will probrably look into that since it will get gutted anyway. Thanks to all that replied.
