Do all '88 trannys have no markings???
I know this has been covered a million times before and I have searched, but I haven't found a definitive answer to this question. Do all 88 d-series trannys lack the normal markings(PL3 3000, PL3 A000, etc). Reason I'm asking is b/c I have a tranny in my car with PL3 A100 stamped on it, but when we pulled it we counted 21 splines. We counted and recounted. I had another tranny stamped PL3 3000, an Si, that I was trying to put in. We counted the splines on that one an it had 20. We tried to put the PL3 3000 tranny on and it wouldn't work, due to the different number of splines.
Did I miscount or what? I thought all 88 trannys did not have the stamp. I don't really want to drop the tranny again and have the new one not work. I don't have the money right now to just buy another clutch/flywheel so that's not an option.

my 88 ZC tranny has bearing mark
look at the input shaft and see how many rings are on it
if there are none its a 21 spline
if it has 1 or 2 then is 20 spline

a jumbled mix of trannys...........
Myself, the D tranny guru, I've yet to see a 1988/21 spline case with any casting marks. Prove me wrong, it happens.

I'm 85% positive the one marked PL3 A100 did not have any rings on the shaft. The one marked PL3 3000 has two rings.
Ok, assume it's an 88, do I need to buy both a clutch AND a flywheel to make the 20 spline tranny work? Thanks for the help.
