Default attn NHRA officials...

now that its the end of the season and were starting to plan for 2004 theres a few items id like to adress to you guys to see if you can work on it for next year. first ill say this is in no way a bash session on you guys just trying to open your eyes to some of the major mistakes i saw and heard about this year.

first ill start with your TV coverage, it sucks. stop trying to make everyone talk **** about the person they are trying to race. its boring and makes me want to change the channel. talk to them at the end of the track like you do the powerade guys. drivers are trying to concentrate on what they need to do and while they still talk to you because any tv exposure for them is good ive noticed it tends to get people out of there normal groove. i kinda liked it when you talked with gary kubo and not lisa before a pass kinda the same thing youd do with the powerade guys. 2nd get better hosts . do a talent search and give some kids that are into the sport the chance and not some mid-30's people that try and talk like they know whats going on.

for the racing stuff id say the thing that most baffled me the entire year was a move at a few events where you had a 9 car and a 10 car field in all motor. if you want to keep the 16 car fields thats fine give 1-6 a bye and run the others, not make a 9 or 10 car ladder. i can remember some times in top fuel where there wasnt full fields you didnt make a 14 car field for them. the only benifit i see from you doing this is youd have to pay one less person for a semi berth.

obviously theres alot of other contriversy going on right now about stuff that i didnt witness first hand so im not really going into that. overall i found most of your officials to be pretty good and the one event we attended had its ups and downs but you couldnt control alot of the oil downs so i cant hold that agaisnt you. we are trying to make a few more events next year but you guys left a very sour taste in my mouth after you bought NIRA and thats why it took almost 3 yrs for us to attend our first event. as i said before this isnt a bash letter just trying to give some constructive critisim for you guys to think about. id also encourage other racers to put in there 2 cents to try and make things better.

good stuff brent...

i would agree with most all of it. nhra needs to get on the ball and make this sport huge. all the demographical ingredients are in order.( i.e. age group, intrest, types of cars) i remeber 5 years ago when nascar was a growing sport, it reminds me a lot of how sport compact racing is now. just not on that large of a scale. if a huge sponsor such as pepsi or somthing similar was to step up to the plate, man oh man, the sport would take off!

weve tryed that several different times and ive never gotten an answer back. multiple friends have tried also with little to no avail. its kinda like if this is the way your going to treat me before i even get to the track how bads it going to be when i get there. and like Billy said as much as i would rather not see it its gonna take the nhra to step up bigtime to get more bigname sponsors to come in and make it huge. its kinda hard to get sponsors when they find out nhra's avg attendence is like 2-3k people a weekend.

I am sure that NHRA will come around and fine out what works best. Everything takes time to develop.

John@M&H-Hashim's</TD></TR></TABLE> I agree behind the scenes street class gets a lot of exposure" not from nhra but from web boards, and such", but at the same time I am glad we just have a class to race in. I am sure with time the street classes will get something, atleast just put there qualifying, and who took 1st and 2nd, after the event...

i agree.until this class came out it was ewither quick/hotrod class, or brackets for us. This class makes it more fair for the people who have street cars and dont wanna go that extra level of a full racecar. the coverage of the Sport Comapct events is a joke and mockery of what we do . i watch the top fuel guys and its much more professional. i dont get it .

They are trying to promote interest in imports to the person that knows little about import racing. Kind of sad coverage but they feel they need to do it WWF style to get ratings. It's not about what the racer wants to see but what they think the average viewer wants to see.

I dunno about you, but i rather watch professionalism then a bunch of idiots. How can we expand the sport if nobody takes us seriously, NHRA should read into that..

I think that if it is a NHRA event then coverage should mimic the Powerade series. Keep the look consistant so the average good ol boy knows the format and doesn't think its some dumb slow import show.

I agree totally. All those hotrod/quick class guys didn't just appear out of nowhere(even though I think some of them forgot where they came from). The street class is the red headed stepchild of the NHRA. I couldn't even find a mention of any results for the street class on http://www.nhrasportcompact.com

that and they need to step up and have an all motor street class. even after all these years IDRC finally got the picture and started one. they need to realize that the street classes are the "sportsman" classes of imports. alot of these guys will travel if they have a place to run. not to mention alot of people only really like to see the street cars and all motor and hot rod cause the cars still look similar to theirs. ive heard stories (since i wasnt born yet) from the 70's when fans would just get up and leave the stands after pro stock not even bothering to watch the rails run. its kinda the same deal with us still being a young sport as they were then.

Yeah I agree with that, there are plenty of all motor street cars that are itching to run nhra. And if possible to provide results on the website. It doesn't have to be up to the minute like the pro classes, after a race would be great. I don't know about everyone coming for sportsman classes, alot leave the stands after the pros run. Street classes, are the best for me to watch, probably because a spectator can relate.

To be honest with you guys I have a lot more fun watching the streetcar and bracket guys then I do ANY of the pros. Sure anybody with a big sponsor and a billion dollars to spend can do 8 secs in a 1500lb car. Its the 10-12 second guys that have the ability to drive their car home if they REALLY wanted/had to with maybe a local sponsor that impress me. All motor street class? Bring them on! It can only help the sport grow just as it did with power adders.

What I don't like is having the Sport class's after the Pro's. Sport should
leed up to the pro class's.

Once the last 6 sec run is done by the Mod guys, the spectaters think
brackets are back and run off to the restroom or for some food.

We need to be first

Damn, there have been alot of thread lately abou nhra and how it should be ran and what should be changed. I we should all make one big letter on what should be changed and have all of us on h-t sign it and send it in to nhra. I figure 1k signitures should get there attention...

It was one bad event, but we must move on. At this point in time no body, no event, no sactioning body is perfect. We are kinda learing as we go so things like this are expected. Bottom line we go to events because we love to race. Lets all work together and get the sport where we need to go. Doesnt matter if its NHRA, NDRA, IDRC or BOTI.

For the of the sport,

art
Hey!! That rhymes!
