prob a biased place to ask but asking from somebody who has prob rode in or drove both. which is faster? stock for stock?

 

bench racing is good for the "us vs. them" forum. sedans are not all about racing, they are about comfort, luxury, smoothness of controls, handling and above all else, reliability. the TL-S has less displacement and is sohc but obviously pulls stronger than the nissan at higher-end. may be the vtec. but, the Maxima is available with a manual. here are numbers from Road&Track...

damn, that took a while to type in. please remember that these cars where not directly compared so track, driver and other things may make the numbers different to your certain situation. also, the maxima was the newest version. so, it should have improved on the previous, but may have weight gains.
may i ask, what is the point of this question?

 

point of the question is that im in the market for a new car...pref one of these 2 and just need help deciding.

 

ok, i was just curious. we get alot of people that asks the same question before they go race someone. it gets kinda weary sometimes. sorry to be asking, but you're an H-T member so you understand...i think the TL will satisfy you more, loaded it is cheaper(33k to 34k with nav) new and holds a better value. i think honda still builds a much better car than nissan.
i guess that would be biased. my parents had a 2000 3.2TL, it was a great car for around town and on very long trips. comfortable, well-poised, good passing power(had 217hp), good mileage, interior wore very nicely. it was pearl white with black leather. looked good and was also understated...cops didn't notice it that much. great car, it didn't do to well in snow along with a few classic oldsmobiles...so they replaced it. i would highly recommend the TL.
i know people that have a maxima and like it but have problems as the mileage gets near the 100k mark. they perform nicely and are smooth. they don't have the technology like the acura. 4-wheel independent suspension, hid's, vtec, available navigation, stability control and maybe side airbags standard. the styling in the rear of the maxima is kinda boring, not that acura is much better. both are improving. i personally think the new maxima is quite hidieous(sp?). ultimately it is your choice on what you want. but, i guess from past experience...i would stick with the honda. have you checked out the new accord sedan? you could probably pick up a nice ex v6 for the same price and have a new car. but, it just isn't as exclusive as the best selling entry level sedan, the TL.

 

im buying used....the 2k2 max has a lot of tq..which im looking forward to after driving a 1.8 integra for 3 yrs now...hahaha

 

Get the TL-S, you'll be much happier.

 

they both have similiar torque ratings. yeah, you need to go drive both. but quite honestly...if you're looking long term you'll be happier with the acura. keep in mind that comptech offers parts for the TL and stillen offers parts for the maxima.

i really don't think you'll notice that much of a difference when cruising around town. my integra has no torque...at all. but it does ok when running down the blvd or getting on the highway. both can spin tires from a stop. have you tested both? also, get one from the dealer...preowned certified is the way to go.

 

i've rode as a passenger in the max before...but not driven or rode in the tls yet

 

I am in a similar situation and have test driven the Maxima se and my friend has a tl-s. Both cars are very nice. The maxima has a bit more edge to its style and tries a bit harder to be cool. The TL-S is classy as all hell. I test drove an auto SE (you'll want a SE for the suspension) and it rode nicely not too firm or too soft. The max has very smooth pickup and could move. It was quiet inside and has nice features. The TL-S has excellent power as well but not as much down low with more action up top. The fit and finish of the TL-S is top notch and it is also very comfortable ride. The suspension seems to be slightly softer than the maxima se. All that said, I can get a 03 maxima se for 21500 and cant touch a TL-S for less than 23K. Both are great cars, but now I am leaning towards....
