Default Clunking noise in rear shock tower (lowered car)

I notice more and more now when I drive and hit small pot holes or go over railroad tracks I get a clunking noise from the rear strut tower. Apparently it is a common thing with lowered cars (i had a prelude that did it too). What exactly is that and how do i fix it?

maybe someone forgot to tighten the upper shock bolts down?

the other thing i would think about is, maybe you need to put some rubber tubing around some of your spring coils. some springs have the coils VERY closely spaced so when the coils collapse on each other it makes noise...i think i have to do it too...
