Default Information on TPS

Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows how to set a tps? Basicaly I want to know what voltage its soposed to be at idle, and what its soposed to be at wot. Also, what OHM are you soposed to use?
I think mine is off and I want to check it, Thanks.

I'm interested in this as well.

I looked at a hondata's honda-logger example recording, and it shows the voltage at .45v closed, and 4.65v at WOT. Sound about right?

spec is .45v closed and 4.5 volts wot. you tap into the middle red wire and disconnect the throttle cable until you meet the specs. The way you adjust the TPS is there are 2 rivets that you will have to slowly pull out the screws or rivets and either rotate the whole sensor clockwise to decrease voltage or counterclockwise to increase voltage. The TPS is is preset from factory so the rivets will be kinda hard to remove, you might need to use a dremel to get them off. on the inside you can use a allen wrench to move the sensor

The rivits wont be so hard to remove since I used a "New" tps cause my old one was broke. I do have one more question thoe, I have a zc and the damn tps is like ---------- <That far from the firewall (If your using 740X860 res that is) and I cant get a skrewdriver in there, can this be done with the throttle bodie off the manifold? Also, what do you do with the ground on the volt meter? Just conect it to the throttle bodie?

You can do it with the throttle body off. You just need to connect the negative on the meter to the chasis.

Just in case anyone doesnt know, the "rivits" holding the TPS are actually threaded in there. You can cut a slot in them with a dremel, and easily take them out with a screwdriver.

My HELMS says that it's supposed to be .5v @ closed, 4.5v @ WOT.

When I installed my 60mm TB, I couldn't get the TPS to read at those voltages. Whenever I set it to .5v at closed, it would go up to 4.65v @WOT. I figured that would be okay though... (I'm using my V-AFC for the voltage readings)

EDIT: Take a look at the top-right diagram on this page, it says what they should be at... Apparently there is room for a slight variation though - I guess it doesn't have to be exact.

Yea, I just disconected my S-AFC, it was causing an assload of problems for me. But it was reading like 2.7 or something 60% throttle at idle, thats how I know I gots to fix the bitch.

Well Now, I hooked up the middle wire to a volt meter and I got .75 I adjusted it to .45 but when I open the throttle to WOT it only reads 4.15, Do you guys think there is a wiring problem?
Also, what could make my safc read 2.something at idle? Could my Rc 270cc injectors be a culprit here? I did get a code 16 but it went away.

You need a constant 5 VDC (Volts direct current) supply to adjust it.
If you don't have it, you will never trully set it at the right point.
the best way is to have a V-AFC. that way you use the cars own 5 VDC and you can set it right by looking at the V-AFC voltage display.
if you are going to do it off the car you MUST have a 5 VDC.
The TPS is what is known as a potentiometer. It changes the incoming voltage, always on the minus side. Meaning you will never get more volts out than you put in.
the setting should be at .5 VDC at idle. Don't worry if it doesn't get to 4.5 exaclty at WOT. Most don't.

The only way to do it right is in the car.
So, take a sharp blade and cut small windows on the wire insulation at the TPS plug. Now loosen the TPS bolts and connect the TPS
then set the ignition key to II (you should see all the dash lights turn on)

Get a digital multy tester and set it to volts DC.
the plug has three wires. two on the outside and one in the center.
Test one of the outter wires with one probe and ground the other probe on a good ground on the engine bay. If you get 5 volts tape that wire, you won't use it.
If you get something less than 5 volts, ussually around 1 volt or less, mark that wire.
Now put the probe on the wire you marked and the other probe on the middle wire.
Move the TPS until you get .5 volts on those two wires. tighten the TPS screws and check again to make sure you still have .5 volts.
you can replace the OEM screws with 10-32 screws, that will make the whole thing a lot easyer.

If you want it really easy, send it to me along with 10 bucks (return shipping) and I will set it right on.
