Tire question...should I try and squeeze these on?
Okay, for those who don't know I have a set of unknown aftermarket wheels that I like (check sig/garage for pics). They are 13" in diameter, but I don't know about width.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right now they have badly worn Sumitomo HTR 200's on them size: 205/60/13
I'm in the market for some new tires and these do good performance wise, considering they're less than $50 a piece too.
If someone knows some better street tires that would do the job let me know....
I'm planning on squeezing Sumitomo HTR 200's on again, but in 215/50/13.
/\should I try this for all for? Or get two 215's/50 and 205/60 ?
I'm usin the site tires.com or tirerack.com...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW I'm using 86-89 accord front tokiko blues civic rears and h&r race springs. and no camber kit. Any suggestions fer that one too?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the help/suggestions. Hopefully I can get a good estimate of the width of the wheel by the sidwall's looks mated to the tire. I'm guessing they are 6" or 6.5" width.
BTW I don't care if they rub a little bit when I turn big.

i think for a honda 215 is too big. it will kill your turning radius and will make your tires rub. stick with the 205.
I've had 185/60, 195/60, 205/60, and 215/50 on my Honda 13x5s. While they all fit and work fine, I'd prolly recommend the 195/60-13s.

I sent Tire rack an email with my question and a pic of my current tire/wheel setup.
I asked what should be the min. wheel width should be and she said 6"-7.5".
I'll check my clearances underneath before I order, and I gotta get a camber kit before I buy my tires.

Well, FWIW, here are the 215/50-13 Sumitomos on 1985 CRX Si 13x5s with 40mm offset, on my Civic... They never rubbed on a 2 inch drop.

What kind of rims are those I was trying to tell from the picture but couldn't get a good view of the width of the tire or rim. A buddy of mine ran 215/50/15 BFG on a 15x7 rim.

Those don't look right on there IMO.

IMO anything over 195x50 15s is a waste maybe a 205X50 15. For street use its a waste to have superwide tires with a profile of 45 or less. They just don't offer any performance advantages. However if you're into rice, make it 300x30 19 and really screw up your ride and handling.

From what I hear Hoosiers are underrated on the width as well (someone commented that the tread on the 205 hoosiers was more than an inch wider than the tread on 205 kuhmos).

ah, so you hated this setup? b/c of the skinnywheels/fat tires? or b/c they were 153's?
Please explain further about what pros/cons etc..

1 ply super soft sidewall Sumitomo HTR50Hs are garbage on 13x5s. They really need a 13x7. I don't know how the newer Sumi HTR200s are as far as sidewall, but I wouldn't trust it.
The reason I advise not to go over 195/60-13, is to keep the pinching to a minimum and sidewall flex down, yet still getting some treadwidth on the ground. This is the best pic I have of 195/60-13s on 13x5s, doesn't show the width too well... http://www.redpepperracing.com/gallery/album17/aat
And please remember, these are street tires. Race tires are an entirely different story, due to their much stiffer sidewalls. Here are 205/60-13 race tires an Honda 13x5s: http://www.redpepperracing.com/gallery/albuo82

Ah, man I don't want more sidewall flex than I already got. Now I'm not so sure on the 215's...
I might get 205's in the front and 195's in the back.
I want wider 13" wheels.

I not saying go get 14" wheels....but 14" Honda alloys are all over the place for sale, in junkyards, etc. for cheap. I just wrapped my 14" lude alloys in 195/60/14 Azenis', and goddamn these tires are incredible....I'll never get regular 14" tires agian. Just a setup worth looking into, since it is hard to find a nice 13" tire.

I think 14" is the way to go too, I'm gonna be wrapping my Optional Equipment 14" EK Split 5 spokes in 195/60/14 Azenis next summer. I'm soo pumped! I had Dunlop SP 8000's on there when I got them but they were bald. I've heard good things about these tires too though, plus they are a 55 series sidewall. (pretty hard to find 50-series for 14's)
