Default anyone mix-n-match harnesses?

im getting a 90 STD hatch and moving everything off 90 civic SI chassis over to it. i was wondering if the engine harness would just plug in, or if i will have to move over the entire car harness for it to work out.

im sorry i cannot pull the dash and engine out of the STD yet, because its not at my house. mi would like to just pull the engine harness out of the SI and plug it into the STD. i have the ENTIRE SI which i will be moving over, so i assume ill have to move the entire dash and engine harness over for it to work out??
i am moving the SI dashboard over as well, so i need to know before i jump into it what im going to need so i can do it right the first time.

a whole car harness swap is quite a duanting task... it is much easier to do the dpfi to mpfi conversion i just did it a week ago it isnt really that hard and doesnt take that much time and i didnt have any problems at all as far as codes and such..... if you do it the other way.... you WILL be takeing almost all the plastic out of both cars not to fun....

so you want to change over the entire engine and interior harness? If I were you I'd just convert to Multi-point and start from there, A lot less of a pain for swaps

Hey....

Just a bit of advice... if you spend a little time making a third harness for your engine compartment for the other injectors and stuff, it will spare you headaches for future modifications. This being the alternative to cutting into your current harness and "rigging" it. If you ever want to go back to the STD It will be easier. Or if you want to go B16/ B18/B20 it'll just be neater.

to the top

heres the deal. i spent may hours on my SI harness wiring it for vTEC withall the appropriate wiring changes, and spent alot of time making it look oem. i have the entire harness and car, from front to back that will otherwise be thrown out. iwould rather use it in the std chassis so that i can plug the engine and dashboard right up like it was in an SI

i am moving everything from the SI over, including doors, hatch, locks, carpet,motor,suspension/brakes..everything. from the looks of it theres only 5-10 more plugs going to the back of the car past the dash (brake lights, fuel pump, plate lights, speakers, trunk open indicator) it sounds like it wouldnt be too hard to move the entire harness over. but i havent ever done it before.

from the looks of it, i think im going to have to move the entire harness over.

OK I did a complete harness swap in my CRX. I went and took all the wires out of a 91 CRX Si and put them into my 91 CRX DX and while yes it was a lot of work it wasnt bad at all especially since i was doing an auto to manual swap as well and on top of that I had to take out my dash to replace the heater core. And if your planning on swapping all those parts listed it just makes sense to swap over the harness as well since its not going to be much MORE work than what your doing already.

Now I assume that your Hatch that your swapping the parts into is a manual correct? If so then the only wires that are going to be different will be the engine harness and only part of the chassis harness.

See when I compared my DX harness to the Si harness the wires were pretty much the same I changed out the dash harness since my dash harness was wired for an automatic so it had extra wires for the gear selector light that is in the cluster and I also swapped out the tail lights harness cause again there was wires for the auto trans there that went to the auto shifter. BUT if your car is already a manual the dash and the tail light wires are all going to be the same.

I say do it like you said your going to be swapping all those parts any way and the harness will just go unused.

See another reason why I did it cause well I had the time since I wasnt rushing to get the car on the street since it was winter and plus less wiring again if I did go with like a B16 or something since i would have had to do wiring for MPFI THEN if/when I got a motor swap I would have to redo the wires once again so my wiring would have been messed with like 3 times so I just elimated one of those times by using the Si harness.

It isnt as bad as people think it is especially if your going to be ripping apart the cars any way.

i REALLY appreciate your input. apearently nobody else has done what im tihkning of doing

my SI is perfect except the rear suspension subframe is bent.

the STD chassis ius perfect except some bondo on the door and fender to fix some bad dings. i have 1 year to complete this project, which also involves building a new motor.

so will i be able to swap just the engine harness over, or will the dash harness be different as well? and from thre dash back, whats different?

both cars are manual 1990 civic hatch's

Well see the "dash" harness your refering to is actually the same between the STD. and the Si well almost positive that they are. Now the one your talking about would be the chassis harness not the dash harness there is actually a seperate dash harness but it doesnt plug into the engine harness...The engine harness and the dash harness plugs into the chassis harness which is going to be the one your going to want to replace. Its the one that goes out into your engine bay goes to your headlights and such also goes to your ecu and the engine harness plugs into it. I say if your going to do it though just replace everything. Just do this (well this is what I did at least) When your stripping the Si just label all of the plugs on it while your disconecting everything. Then when you strip the STD. just go and basically lay the Si harness over the STD. harness and then just unplug the STD and plug in the Si harness. I was able to save pretty much all of the plugs that mount the harness onto the body of the car (the plastic clips and such) So everything bolted right in like stock.
