how to tell if its an auto ECU??
Actually there is a different part number for autos.. I forgot but tomorrow I look it up on alldata and it will tell me what the ECU number is.
bah, the biggest give away if its an auto ECU are if the transistors are there for the lockup solenoid etc:

wanna make it a manual ecu? remove RP17 and RP18, replace RP18 with a jumper wire

no, the fuel and timing maps are the same... other than having the extra outputs they're pretty identical. the stock tune sucks donkey *****, period

thanks for all the help so far
but is there any way i can tell by looking at the code on teh ecu itself?
i dont wanna go thru opening it up if its not neccesary thanks

auto ecus on 5spd cars:
code 19
barcode reads on the ECU:
37820-P28- A50 or A51 or A52 or C50 or C51 and so on...second # being 5 means an auto ecu.

You can change it. I wish I had the threads handy on how to do it but I don't.

Here is my offer: If you ship me your ECU (P28 or P06) I will convert it to manual, install a 28 pin socket and add the 373 gate. All I want in return is the two transistors that control the auto transmission. You no longer need them. All you would need to do is send me your ECU and include $12 for return shipping.
If you are interested, let me know.

Nah, not really. I have a shitload of 373's, 28 pin sockets, and a nice soldering station. I need some 5151s for a turbo related P28 mod, and it's easier than converting an IR6220. It's still a pretty sweet deal for someone without soldering ability or PCB experience.
