Default 1500$-what to do?

Ok guys, i have been on honda-tech for like a year and a half, at least 1 hour a day just reading up on some stuff-so i know a few things-but i need your help now. I have 1500 bucks, and i can find ef's for under 800 bucks, but what i want to know is if it is possible to buy like a 88 ef hatch/sedan/rex and swap in either a DOHC zc, a SOHC zc, or a d15b vtec and still stay under 1500 bucks with the price of the car? Also-is there any differences when swapping a motor into a sedan than a hatch?

I just got a great new job and i need something to dump my cash into, considering im 16 and i have nothing better to spend it on...thanks in advance-aaron

It's not impossible to find an ef and swap the engine for $1500 provided that you get a really good deal on the car and do the labor yourself. Good luck.

yeah, i know of a dx for sale right now for 500 bucks----but then i would have to convert to multi point. I went on hasport and found a Conversion harnes for 88-91 DX/STD that are going to use a zc engine...its like 200 bucks but does that take care of all the wiring?

Wiring is more research, time, and patience. You can do the conversion yourself.

yeah i know, but i wanted to know what all wiring that conversion harness does

edit-also, if i can get the car for 500-800..and the motor for 500-600, will that extra 300 or so cover most of the miscellanious stuff?

yeah-i also thought of another good option..buy a decent civic si or crx si-and then buy a used supercharger later when i get the money. Cheap, lots of tourque-and pretty innexpensive

How much would i be looking at for a used supercharger? ive seen them as cheap as 800-is that about normal?

for a used super charger youll pay around 1000 on average, personally iv seen super chargers perform and they arent that great, turbos pull harder and produce more power. buy a 91 crx si (1000) buy a b16 swap (1700) Peice together your own turbo kit (2200) and you'll have one bad *** crx at 10 pounds of boost with basic tuning

if you can get the std or dx for $500-800 i would say go on homemadeturbo.com or turbod16.com and youll be able to find a kit anywhere from $800(homemade)-1400(greddy/apexi). si intake manifold$40 off ebay, pm6$50 off somebody and youll be almost complete aside from tranny.

I agree you could find a STD or DX hatch for under a 1000.00 and pick a Z6 or a D15 for under 500.00
that would be good for a low 15 second run.

I think you should go DOHC ZC(black valve cover); it's gonna be the best bang for the buck IMO. You can get the motor from hmotorsonline for like 700 I believe.

If you want vtec go D16y8...i've got one and they are very cheap to work on and a lot of fun to drive. 130hp stock. I'm not loaded so it's just right for me

I didn't think i'd ever say this, but i'm pretty damn impressed with the SOHC VTEC motors and what they can accomplish. I saw one at our CRX meet the other weekend that posted dyno numbers of 181hp and 179ft-lbs tq. If I had that much torque in my B16, mmmmm.....

WOW WOW WOW...do you know what kind of work he had on his car? Within the next year i want to try to build up to around those numbers but i don't know much about what people are doing to them besides cams. Maybe pistons and other stuff? You just got my attention!

I'll try to get more info on his setup....I think I have a pic posted somewhere of the car...oh yeah, here it is:

EDIT: my hp/tq #'s were a little off obviously.

Hmm my valve cover on my Y8 just says honda with no vtec on it? Is that one stock? Anyway i would say that the Y8 is plenty fast for me right now and Hybrid Invasion said they respond well to mods. It's a lot cheaper and is also a little more fun because 75% of swaps are B16's from what i see. Just my opinion, good luck with your choice!

I just chose to go B series. I no longer call those guys "SOHC puppets", hehe Some of those lil bitches are QUICK..I know that guys SOHC y8 above would hand me my *** on a silver platter.

i didnt read any of the post except for the first one. but i say get a crx si/hf for 1000/900 with little rust, do a mini me and u have 115 to the wheels easy. only 250 for a y8 head, 75 for rpm switch, 40 for y8 gasket. good hp for the dollar and good to build from. and its easier if you are younger or inexperienced
