What are you guys paying for insurance on your bikes?
Pretty much what it sais... When I turn 18 I will be purchasing a bike. I have already taken all the safety courses and feel comfortable on a bike. Now since im not raking in a lot of money i need to go for the cheapest possible insurance possible. I am debating on a used gsx-r 600 or a cbr 600 f4i. Im looking to spend around 6 or 7k for a bike. It all depends how much insurance it going to rape me. So i just want to get an idea of what you guys pay and what i might expect to pay. Sorry for the run on post but i think you get what im saying.
LOL, I am 25 (almost 26) and I just financed another bike so I have to have insurance. They are '*** raping' me for almost $3700 a year to insure an '02 RC51. The insurance agent said it is much, much cheaper to insure a naked (or standard) bike.
Insurance will depend on who your provider is, what age you are, where you live, and your previous driving record (and probably some other factors I haven't mentioned). If you're under 25, better get some KY Lube. If you live in a high-theft/high-accident area, better get two tubes. And if you have some previous infractions, then buy from Costco (or any other warehouse store).
Having taken the safety course will help lower your cost a bit, but overall you'll be looking at a LOT for insurance. If you're not financing, then you can choose just liability (I would recommend more). And please factor in around $1000 for some good gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, pants, boots).
I pay $800 for full coverage through Geico. Pretty helpful customer service, too. 25, 1995 Honda CBR600F3, two infractions.

$806 for liability and comprehensive(30/60 coverage) through State Farm. I'm 21 with a R6 no accidents or points
I pay $1200 a year full coverage on a 95 FZR.
Buying an older bike, anything between 95 - 98 would suit you fine, not suck performance wise and save you a ton of money. A CBR is going to cost more, and a Katana is going to cost the least. In between are the ZX6R and the FZR/YZF.
Another way to save money is to go with a higher deductible. With 6-7k to spend you could get a mid 90's 600, a nice helmet & jacket and still have a couple grand left over.
Cheers,
Roy

I pay $600 a year full coverage on a 2000 CBR 929RR and I'm 20 years old.
I try to go through progressive and gieco but they wanted a two to three thousand every six months. So I just went through the insurance my car is with.

It REALLY depends on your location!!!
I paid $15/mos. in Central NY with full coverage on a 03' CBR600RR. Now that I'm in S. Florida it's gonna be $49/mos. Still not a whole lot, but don't even get me started on how much my auto insurance went up.
SOUTH FLORIDA SUCKS FOR INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW - I'm 27, married, clean record, and multiple policies(auto,rental,life,etc...) through State Farm.
But I'd recommend Astroglide for lubrication. Being 18, you'll be *** raped without a doubt.

You paid $180 a year through State Farm? Wow, maybe I can get my policy transferred since I live in NY and NJ isn't the best priced for insurance

Want to find out how much it is really going to cost.... Take 5 minutes and call an insurance company or two. That is the only way you will find out. The prices here vary wildly due to location, age, points, etc.....
thanks for your guys's input. I kinda already knew i was going to get screwed but oh well. Just have to work some extra shifts for it. Buy a cheaper bike a put the rest into insurance and probably some future tickets?
Honestly a lot of you guys do pay a lot cheaper than I would have expected. What are your companies and what are you covered on. because if you finance or get a loan they will make you get full coverage. thats why im buying my bike cash and then save money in the long run as long as nothing happens hopefully on insurance.

Dude, for what?
Dude, for what?
Well I was paying $137 a month for full-coverage on my YZF. That's for a 27 Single Male with 4 tickets in the last 3 years. I don't know whats going to happen now to my rate, since my bike got stolen and theyre probably going to have to cash out the policy. I may have to get out of the sport for a few years.
Im liking the small insurance companies. I pretty much just want the insurance so when i get pulled over (hopefully not) and the cop sais proof of insurance im not going to get screwed on that. If anything is going to happen then its my problem. But just for now im going as least amount of coverage as possible and as cheap. I have 2 houses that i can keep my bike at. So i dont have to worry about it getting stolen unless im out somewhere else but thats a different story. Is this making sense? or am i being stupid not getting other coverage in other areas?
