Already posted in Gen. Diss. but no responses..... How much would you charge a friend of a friend to swap out a trans in a 95 HB.... I was thinking $100 + parts, (oil, resurface, clutch kit, cotter pins, etc) do you think that is too much? I feel that anything is too much since I do all of my own work... TIA!

 

I did a clutch and tranny job for a friend for dinner.

12 bucks...lol

Average price for a clutch change at an auto shop is $300. Based off of that price I'd say $100 for labor is a decent price.

Yeah, it it was MY friend, I would do it for a burger, soda, and his company while I did the work... but this is my "Friends Friend".... and I don't know him too well.. But I still dont want to rip him off or perform free or ridiculously underpriced work.

I usually do stuff for like 25% of what a shop would charge for aquaintences.

100 plus parts is more than fair for both parties

 

Ohh I didnt read that you were doing it for someone I though you were paying someone to do it on your car. Well if it was me and I was going to do a tranny swap on someones car $100 would be a fair price.

yup yup

The good thing about this is....now people will ask him who did the work, and he'll be quick to tell them you did. This can also bring in more jobs on the side that you can now charge a beefier price on

 

as long as he doesn't mention what HE paid... (mental note to self: Tell him not to tell people how much he paid)
