Default ******D16Z6 Rebuild******

Well, i just picked up two d16z6 long blocks. One block is bad because the part that connects to the motor mount is broken off of the actual block - this is too dangerous to weld. The other was knocking when it was pulled out and replaced.

My goal is to pull out the internals from the useless d16z6 block, and rebuild the knocking long block. In the process, i'm also going to do a complete rebuild.

What do you all think i should replace when rebuilding it? Gaskets, seals, belts, etc. Thanx in advance.

imo, if your going to replace internals,
shouldnt you replace them with parts that will increase performance? instead of used stock parts?

do something to beef that baby up!

yeah. Do it now...you'll love yourself.

Think about doing an OEM build using maybe D16A6 pistons perhaps.

You can also pick up a full gasket set for under 100 bucks also.

This along with a crank grind, freshen up the cylinders, maybe a rebuilt head with a p&p and a cam, could see some good results

definately do a rebuild with preformance parts while its all apart. its just easier. try some srp 10.5 comp pistons, some forged rods or maybe machined ls rods, new gasket sets, zex cam, cam gear, i/h/e and some other bolt ons and u should be pretty happy. oh- look into the hondata intake heat shield/gasket thingy. it made a noticable difference in temp between my im and my head

When you swap parts please dont swap the cranks caps.. they are not interchangable. Also you might as well get new pistons rings and bearings.

i don't need new pistons, i'm using the rods and pistons from the 40k longblock; the only prob with it is that it won't hold in the engine bay, hence i'm rebuilding the other knocking long block w/ the good parts from the other.

I'm currently in the same situation as you are. I need a set of A6 pistons to complete my parts list. If anybody reading this thread has a set, please let me know. (sorry don't mean to hi-jack this thread) I'll keep posted as well on my build.

you dont get out point,
were saying ditch those stock parts you have, sell em off or something.

its not worth the EFFORT to stick them in an engine, when you could put in some GOOD parts.

i just picked up a z6 and a y8 longblocks for cheap. desided to go with the z6.
hears my list

eagle rods, JE pistons comp 9:5:1
new bearings, washers and thrusts.
New gaskest and head gasket. honda OEM
new stainless valves, crower springs, and possably a zex turbo cam.
block gaurd and possable some port and polish head work and a 3 angle valve job.
ill then run 12-20 psi on this setup. if your ganna take the time to do the work either use high come oem pistons, or use aftermarket forged pistons and turbo it.

i didnt know that zex made a turbo profile cam for the sohc vtec? anyway, dont forget fuel system upgrading for boost!!! tuning is critical too. and i think u might have to notch the block to fit the eagle rods in. ive heard this before...look into it and good luck with your build- i shoulda turbo'd my z6, but i went with nitrous instead.

when you rebuild with aftermarket pistons do you have to bore the cylinder so it gets wider? or are the pistons the same size as stock?
