I don't think it's expensive jsut to poor people. I'm sure there's some well off people out there who still think it's ridiculously overpriced and won't pay for it.. on another note there's a kid in river side who just got about 3 grand of mugen stuff for his rsx and hondata all in one weekend..

How can you say this without seeing plots of gains, or reports of the actual product?

If you prefer to have ZERO dips in power with a fat midrange then buy Mugen. If you want a peak number which others give, then buy those. There IS a different philosophy with Mugen Products which are geared more to racing and not street racing on the streets where a product with peak power may be better. I'm not saying you do street or drag race, or that the products I mentioned are for that, but typically a product with large top end gains will not be the best on the track which is what Mugen sells for. I feel they deserve to charge that much since almost NO product can offer ZERO losses in power. I haven't seen plots of the Mugen piece, but they typically have fantastic products.

Im with you totally on that philosophy about intakes, none of the CAI's are worth the money IMHO, the gains are not anywhere and some have real losses to match. You have to build the whole I/H/M/E system to get the real benefits.
For the record, I've had my hondata'd stock airbox, and a home-made through-the-grill scoop-- much like mugen's-- for about 5 months now. I like it, too! Definitely noticeable gains for a ghetto-cheap *** mod! ($10)
This is it... made from 30-gague metal, cut an soldered into shape
and here it is installed, with heat-shielding, the air comes in from just above the Si emblem on the grill.

Nice work! That looks like a great set-up for low money. That definately looks like you get 90% there for 10% of the price, or in this case, 1.5% of the price.
A JDM company (T-1?) was going to make that endpiece for about $99 at one time, I just decided to make my own.
I thought maybe it was just placebo, so I put the stock snorkel back on one day, and realized that there was a real improvement, especially in the low end with the custom endpiece.
Though I used to put some masking tape over the grille on rainy days, I later experimented and found that it stays perfectly dry deep inside... the water just doesnt go in hard enough to reach the filter box.
The only sacrifice you make with this setup is that you must remember not to squirt the water hose into the grill where the Si emblem is, or you're just asking for it!

Here's the reason why I didnt buy the Mugen intake when I was in Japan a few months ago.....

Thanks a lot for posting that FunkyR. I guess my only question is what the gains would look like on the RSX-S as opposed to the RSX-R. But I understand your hesitation in purchasing the airbox and twinloop.
Gruppe M won't fit left hand drive . I contacted them about my EP3. They say our steering equipment gets in the way. I would love to order it and see if it can be modified.
I believe it works alot like a cowl induction hood, drawing cold air from the cowl and windshield area, I am sure someone could build something like that using their base design.

Mugen mostly is for the brand name. granted they are quality, but not really performance wise best bang for buck you know.
Example: why most people would choose a bmw (z3) over a honda (s2000) because of the label...
